Replacing shocks..procedure?

Plan to replace the shocks, front and rear, but I've never done suspension work before...and the manual I'm referring to I don't quite trust..since it doesn't indicate the vehicle needing to be raised and the tires removed...which must be a part of the process...

So on that note, I come to the fountain of knowledge that is those of you here who have risked limb to perform this, and ask..what's the step by step to a successful swap out on a 96 Grand Cherokee?

I have done all 4 on a 98 GC this past summer. First time replacing shocks for me. I used Kroil and soaked all nuts and bolts overnight. It is a no brainer. Jack stands and remove tire. I used an impact wrench and it was a piece of cake. I have read about problems with the top nut on the front shocks because the stud turns with the nut. You may have to use a nut splitter. Good luck!

Well I've got the nuts soaking. What's the best approach to that driver's front topside nut with the BMC kinda being in the way?

Took about 2 hours yesterday to finish this up, most time consuming was the right driver's shock top, just because of it's location under the BMC...

This was actually pretty easy with the right tools.

I sprayed the nuts and bolts for a couple days before the project with WD-40, so it didn't require an unusual amount of work to loosen them when it was project time.
So I'd recommend that.
