Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone has heard of a similar problem. If not, then this serves as a warning!!
My 02 SpecV is at Nissan waiting for the short block to be replaced. Started hearing a ticking noise under the car about a month ago as had Nissan check it out when I did the oil change. They came back with the bad news as follows: A baffle in the CATs completely disintegrated and must have sucked some debris via back pressure into the motor. Of course, metal pieces and moving engine parts don't get along very well. They said it's cheaper to just replace the engine than attempt to fix the problem.
Warranty is paying off!

yep, it seems to be a recurring problem, and I think they either have issued a recall for the cat or are thinking of issuing a recall for it....I don't remember

Yea the same happened to my car. back in october of 2002 my car had around 650 miles on it and was burning oil like an oil field in iraq and i was told that was the "norm" for a "new" engine then I finnaly i went to the BBB and disputed it then finally they changed my short block. then car had around 4000 miles on the engine. Then at around Febuary i brought my lovely car in to the crackjacks at nissan they were confused on why my car went crazy and all the idoit lights were on check engine and the oil light and there was a strange hiss from the exaust. They found out that my cats were messed up after it has being in a month in there hands i then took it home for a day then had to return it back cause the idiot lights turned on again then i left it for another month till they figured it was some oil sensor then i took it home for a quck ride and then........ a major cloud of blue and white smoke came out of the exaust pipe then.... then great sound of a slege hammer hitting metal tune came from under the hood. Guess what it was the great tune of an engine last moments of life before it dies. It headed back to the shop it was towed. and now till this day i am waiting for then to finish with my great piece of $#!t to come out of the shop to go back to were it spends more time than in my garage.
My car has been in the shop for an 3 months and counting now they finished with a new engine and i got a free complamentary winshield (since somehow a wrench went thru it since nissan has had it in there caring hands) and now i am waiting for a new muffler for ovr 2 weeks so i can have my car back for a short time till it has to go back to the shop.
i have to give NISSAN a salute:flipa: to fine workmanship and thanks for there great customer relationship for screwing me this car has been in the shop for the 12 months i have had the pains of owning it it has been in the shop for a total of 5 months and counting with no compensation or even a swap out nor a phone call to my problems not even with reimbursment of my monthly payments since it is in the shop.
well NISSAN

Just a question, have you broken in either of your engines? (not breaking 3k rpm for the first 1000 miles)
PS: Just think, it could be worse: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/dodge_dur_oil.html

yea i did its just a pice of $#!t it was in for oil consumtion tests over and over & they never figured it out.Nissan:monkeypis on me all the time with non foward answers to the problems i have been experenceing.
If you look around on other forums there is a hugh number of people experencing the same problem there is a message on there 1(800) number stating that there is a problem with the cats. since i owned it my car hasnt had a month without it being a quart of oil missing from the car. but they havent backed up there workmanship if you have a problem it should be fixed right the first time.
it has gotten to the point that the dealer that sold me the car has refused me to enter to get my car fixed. Since they could end there "customer relation" when they feel like it. Nissan said that they can do such things since i am a small speck in the grand sceem of things.
I personally feal its the dealers obligation to me since i purchased the car from them & since there selling the Nissan( ) product & there representing Nissan( ) they should be more than willing to back up there product but then again i am dealing with a heartless company that only cares about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
well just as fast as i recomended 6 people to Nissan( ) i can do the exact opposite
well they have lost my trust in the company and there empty words and promises that they have told me thru out this long and sad show of there great care in there name and products
i havent had enough time in all to even experence the on break in period
my buddy bought the identical car down to the tee and he beats the balls off the car bringing to english town NJ and racing the hell out of it since day one he got the car
so go figure one aspect a person who beats the hell out of it. To the guy who pampers it
I wished i never got rid of my SUPRA for the LemonSpec-V

It sounds like that one dealership is full of dipshits....we have a dealer like that in SA and they f*ck up every car they try to fix. Then you take it to another dealer and they fix it right and there's not another problem. I assume you have taken it elsewhere, were they just as bad? If not then you REALLY need to go to a different dealership. Not all Nissans are bad, and not all dealerships are bad...my car has over 30k miles on it and it's been in the dealership once for warranty work, and that was for a $.02 clip that holds on the side molding. Find a better dealer, one that knows what they're doing and can fix it right.

Thanks for all your thoughts!
It sounds like Nissan has a real problem on their hands, I just hope I don't get screwed around like LemonSpecV. I'm not sure if I trust them replacing the engine. The dealer I deal with is a tiny little shop that has only two car-bays. I was there yesterday and they had the new engine just sitting on the floor, not covered and crap all around it. The service guy fed me some crap about how much better an engine I'm getting because it's not assembled on the "line"; this, after I questioned them about the quality and reliablitly of having the engine replaced.
You make a very good point LemonSpecV about the car payments! I'm paying over $400 Cdn. a month to drive their piece of crap courtesey Sentra that has power nothing and is the colour of puke!
All I know is they better fix it right the first time and not dick around. The service guys don't know it, but my bro is good friends with the business manager at that dealership!
I'll keep you guys posted. I should be getting it back within the next couple of days. It's only been a month!!!!
