shame you dont have a location entered
in australia you can get a good compresor from most auto stores for under $200.00 they are a lot better than the tamiya one
as for airbrushes never used a tamiya, i have a aztec + badger both very good. price depends on the type of airbrush you buy
i would look all the opptions that you have before you buy anything ,ask the people at your local hobbie shop or other people in your area or on this forem
it would help to know where you lived

The Tamiya Spraywork is a very good entry level airbrush. I have used it for 5 years no problem. I dunno if they still come with 2 nozzles (thin and large)but mine (older version) does.

yeah i'm going to buy the tamiya one as well. I've talked to a few guys from local hobby shops, they all recommend me this and say it should be more than enough for me (a casual modeller)
I noticed it is backorder on HLJ thou so hopefully i don't have to wait too long

I bought one of these 3 weeks ago and it works very well. The first time I had ever used an airbrush and I got the hang of it straight away. It's very easy to use and to get the hang of it. The only tiny problem, is that the airbrush itself has a plastic body. This just means that you have to take extra special care of it, but it still feels pretty solid :). Plus Tamiya have a range of pretty good quality airbrushes that you can move up into if you feel the need.

The compressor itself feels very solid and well build too. Mine came with an adapter which is a good thing because it's cheaper than having to buy the battery and charger, and you get unlimited running time :).

try superchep auto or repco ,they are all made by the same company they just use different stickers, with a large capacity tank you only get your inital start up noise and and when it starts again to top up the pressure tank(not that often) its the best way to go ,those small ones are apain in the arse

I have the older version of the Tamiya Spray Work.

Nice, simple PORTABLE compressor.

A couple R/C batteries and i'm set.

I've talked to quite a few people about airbrushes, especially the guys at my local hobby shop, and they put me onto the Tamiya one, saying it'll last me a long time, and is very easy to use. And after feeling just how well the compessor is built and how sturdy it is, I believe them.

As far as big compressors that compress air and then store it in a tank, that's ok, but they make a hell of a noise when they start up. Far too much for peole living in an apartment type situation, or somewhere where alot of noise wouldn't be a good thing. That's where these smaller compressors shine. They make a constant airflow with a very quiet running noise.

Yes.. that's pretty much the same as me.. I've talked to quite a few guys from a few different hobby shops. And they all recommend me the Tamiya saying it is a very good one and they have all been using it for a while. I did asked them if i should buy a separate bigger compressor and airbrush instead for better quality but they said the tamiya one is probably more than enough for me and is easy to use and reliable as well. Hm.. maybe it's a kiwi thing as we are both from N.Z. ? :p but i think i'll trust them as i saw they are quite respectable guys. BTW, the local retail price is almost double the price i paid at HLJ!!! (even after including the shipping)

I noticed the hlj price, and even though it was half what I paid, I still bought it locally for a few reasons like:

I wanted it urgently. I had lost alot of otivaton in building, and this sure did fix that.
I like to buy as much as I can from my local hobby shop to support them etc, and make sure they stay open. Even though It may cost more, they run a very tight ship, with alot of fantastic kits in there. Plus the service and advise is always excellent.
It came with the adapter too, so I didn't have to scout around for one later! :)

If you can find an adapter that fits your mains voltage, and converts it into (I think this compressor runs 7.2 volts, but I can't remember exactly) then you'll be fine.

Unless you already have Tamiya r/c cars, and have a charger, don't buy them. The price you'll pay for a battery and a charger, will be more than the mains adapter.

You might need an old blanket to wrap the compressor, and an extension cable with switch. They claims that they cut the noise by 1/2, compared to the previous model, but it's still noisy.
