Compressor Oil Capacity

Anyone know where I can find out how much compressor oil my Freestar should have? It's a 2005 SEL with a 4.2 liter engine with dual air. I just installed a new compressor that came with 1.5 ounces of Ice 32, but have information with the compressor or on the vehicle that tells how much oil.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have an FS10 compressor. The oil should be drained out of your old compressor and measured. You then need to follow the below instruction list for PAG oil adding, into the new compressor before vacuuming, and refrigerant R134 charging , of 53 ounces refrigerant for Freestar dual/rear ac system.

Ford FS10/FX15 – Drain and measure old compressor oil. If drained oil is between 3 and 5 ozs. replace with the same
amount. If drained oil is less than 3 ozs. add 3 ozs. If drained oil is over 5 ozs. add only 5 ozs.

Thanks for the info. Problem is that I have already replaced the old compressor and don't know how much oil it had in it. All I know at this time is that the new compressor came with an ounce and a half of Ice 32 in it. If I'm reading this correctly the amount of lubricant should be between 3 ounces and 5 ounces but no more than that. Would it be safe to have a total of 4 ounces including the Ice 32?

Oh, and while I'm at it; can you tell me where the orifice tube is located? It appears to be behind the engine near the firewall. If that is the case it looks like the dash will have to be pulled or the engine dropped just to get to it. I'm not sure if this is the location or not.

Generally the compressors have approx. 3 ounces in them when removed. I would add 2 more ounces of pag oil to yours just to be in the ballpark for proper quantity filling. You can add the oil thru the suction side port if your system is already recharged, but you need the proper oil charge adapter to do that.In a pinch, I have also loaded pag oil into the refrigeration gauge hose and pushed it into the system with some refrigerant while charging.
Your front orifice tube is by the firewall. To get to it, you will have to remove the windshield wiper arms, and the 2 plastic cowlings below under the windshield. You will find that it doesn't take that much time, and opens up all the firewall space below for easy replacement of the orifice, and also the rear spark plug or coil replacements when needed. The rear AC coil has a Thermostatic expansion valve on it that regulates the refrigerant in the back coil ( Used in place of an orifice). Location is under the rear left side quarter panel plastic in the cargo area. Sometimes the expansion valve can stick and cause a no cooling in the rear only condition.
