Changing intake question...

I have been having surging probs with my LSS '96 non-SC for a while. It has 84K. After changing alot of diff items (IAC, TPS, PCV, water pump, fuel regulator) and the surging continues. I couldn't find any vacuum leaks , so after research I decided to go to the intake. I have successfully removed the intake and there seems to be a pretty good amount of what looks to me ,oil. Might have some coolant in there too. It is puddled up where the hidden bolts for the lower are located.

Can I clean this gunk up in the intake with Carb cleaner?
Should I look at other parts? (lower)?
Does this look like it was deffective and could be causing the surging?

I have never taken an uim off without that puddle of oil in the corners I always seal those bolt threads and that stops, but you do not have a real diagnosis for the surging which can be caused by other issues than a bad lower gasket or upper intake, usually that is not a symptom unless they have severe vacuum leaks.

I noticed upon removal that there seemed to be a leak of coolant need the throttle body connection and the little tube that runs in the intake connect to that MAP seemed to be out of position. ?????

should I refill the coolant sytsem with reg coolant and not the dexcool?

To change from Dexcool you will need a thorough coolant flush so as to not to mix old and new. I'd stay with Dex myself./

this car is starting to piss me off. :cya:
I have done all this stuff and have not found the reason for surging.
Just replaced the intake (dorman w/ new EGR tube) ,put it all back together and still surging.....

What should I look for next?????

Kinda though this would happen. lean fuel mixture, bad o2 sensor, are just some of the possibilities. You need a full scan to look at analog inputs and pending codes, if you disconnected the battery a lot of info will be lost. The egr could be be carboned up and stuck partially open also. Look at fuel trims when scanning.

a Scan tool is really needed to further diagnose this car... The EGR( Linear EGR ) is a bit picky... The EGR has a position sensor that the PCM reads to know exactly what location the Pintle is in, This is how it determines the % that the EGR is open compared to what is commanded by the PCM.. If the pintle is open you will have issues.. But you will need to look at the live data stream to see whats going on..

The EGR was just an example... You could have one of several problems or a couple of problems... This is where the Scan Tool would come in handy...

I recently had my car scanned at a shop. They said it is not showing anything or any history on it either.

OK. All they said was they did a full scan and it was showing anything and nothing was in the history.
I check the fuel pressure last week, it showed 47-48

FP is good, has anyone qualified driven the car that has offered an opinion? Not to diminish your attempts, but this may not be engine related. And again we really don't know how comprehensive that scan was and did they drive the car to feel what is happening?

Not really. the transmission shop that rebuilt my trans did the scan. They drove the car a couple time to test the trans after putting the rebuilt in but said it drove fine. I know the scanner they used was considerably bigger than the one Autozone and such places use. I didn't want to have to pay them to find it tho cuz I already dished out $1700 for the trans.
Like i said tho, it doesn't do it all the time. just sporatically.
