i was driving home from work... doing the usual 75ish...
i come around a big corner (for the ohioans, it's 490w to 71s) and i come up on a merc e430...
he doesn't speed up, and i usually take the corner at about 80ish...
it's one lane, then it merges into a 3 lane highway...
it's 3 lanes, i go far left, he stays right. i hit 80, he starts to speed up. gets next to me in the right lane. looks at me. i downshift to 4th. step on it. pull to 85. let off. he tries to do the same. so i step on it harder, take it to 100. he can't keep up. i hold 100, in 4th. he starts to catch. i take it to 120, and keep going, and he can't catch me... for about 2 miles, he can't catch me at 125ish...
fun... he wasn't happy, and i saw it on his face when he looked at me... some spoiled kid whose 'rents bought him a merc. oh well.

1/4 times are high 15, like 15.8ish...
i've got slips here...
my 60ft times are 2.3-2.4 so that's quick...
and my high end acceleration is pretty quick...
i dunno why it's not that quick in the 1/4... but it's quick up top...
i'm not gonna worry too much about it, i just know i've got a high speed sprinter...

i'd say so...i take it ur mid range jus drops off a bit? cuz a 2.3 for ur 60' isn't bad at all, an if u can pull ike crazy up top...then its gotta drop off for u to run high 15's.

3rd takes forever down the strip, and i shift into 4th just before the line...
i can redline 3rd, but i ended up hitting the limiter when i did that... i think that ruined my run...
oh well... i'm gonna hit the track this friday, we'll see what happens then...
if i'm cruising at like 50 in 3rd and floor it, it pulls like crazy, like when i get on the freeway, and 4th pulls really hard too, oh well...
that's what i'll worry about... fast on the freeway, and sticky in the corners...
anything else is a bonus...

what speeds are you at in your gears? sound like we have similar gearing...
i'm at 85 or so at the top of 3rd, and 110ish at the top of 4th...
granted, my power peaks at 6400, but i shift higher, around 7k...
(prior to all the motor work and power upgrades, i used to peak out 3rd at about 80mph...)

What can you do to help the loss of torque in those higher gears? Or is it just something you work around and boost what you do have?

loss of tq isn't bad.
tq gets you going, hp keeps you moving...
your tq peak drops off, but your hp should be climbing...
so it's not a big deal...
if you're trying to say that this guy just wasnt pushing his car by noting his power, i dunno, but he was trying, and it wasn't getting him anywhere but further behind me...
