Good and Easy Anti-Theft Device?

Hi,

can you recommend a good and easy to use anti-theft device?

Steering wheel lock is cracked in 60 seconds and an alarm system to complicated to install. Is there a thing between?

The only simple things I can suggest would be to tap into the coil power or fuel pump power feed and put a hidden switch on it. That way, even if they pop the steering lock and get the ignition switch to turn, the car won't start since there will be no fuel or spark.

The only bad part about hidden switches is the theif has already done hundreds of dollars in damage before he finds out the car won't start.

Remember The Club? Easy to use but about the only good part about The Club wheel lock is that is was very visible. It's easy to defeat, but at least the theif could see it and hopefully move on before damaging things.

Cracking columns? This was a notorious way for boosting older GM cars from the 70'2 through 2000's.
One used to be able to get billet aluminum collars which slipped over the vulnerable parts of the column. This is easily seen by a potential thief, and they aren't cracking anything with one of these.

Get some Grade 100 chain, wrap it around the column, wheel and brake pedal, secured with a really good padlock. Sure its a pain to install, but again, the car isn't going anywhere....................

Stay away from the da hood, take a bus, or a taxi, buy a hoopty, have a friend drive. If a thief wants your car, or something inside it, he WILL get it, no matter what anti theft device you have.

Any anti-theft protection has some benefit, even if its easy to defeat.

Most theives are lazy and often stupid. (If they were smart and/or hardworking, they would not be theives!!)

So they often look for the easiest, most convenient target. If The Club or some cheesy alarm makes your car more difficult to steal than average, they will often move on to another target.


Some people say "If a theif wants something, they will get it no matter what you do."
IMO this is sometimes an excuse for the owner being too lazy to do anything at all.. Take some action, even if its minor, to make your car less of a target. Make the theif realise taking your car is going to be a bit of work, so they are more likely to move on.
