I haven't had the issues, but have read about them here.
For the taillights, check the wiring. Start at the taillights and move forward until you find the chafed/worn spot.
The dash lights can be a connector at the back of the instrument gauge, which gets loose over time; that's where I would start.

That's good to know....now we can be more sure it's the wiring for the tail lights.

new to the forum but here goes,
My 99 orvis used to do this all the time, the fuse in the extra box under the bonnet used to blow regularly but could not work out what it was until one day when putting the car from park into drive with the lights on I saw a flash from the selector area and the dash lights went off, stripped the plastics off from around gear selector and noticed the wire for the bulb in there was worn through to the copper and when shifting was shorting out on the selector shaft, Insulating tape sorted this out for me.
Hope this helps you,
Mal.
