Hello,

I have a 1997 4WD GMC Jimmy and have been experiencing noises coming from the rear of my car while in motion for 3-4 days now. I do not hear anything when I brake, even if I slightly use or strongly step on the brakes. The noise only occurs when in motion so based off the quick research I did on the web I am led to believe this is a wheel bearing or brake issue. Any suggestions?

FYI, sometimes the noise doesn't start immediately when I proceed from a stop sign, but usually starts up within 15-40 feet of the stop no matter how slow or quickly I accelerate.

I am heading to the shop later but any info in advance is much appreciated!!!

Drum or disc brakes in the rear? If disc, it could be the parking brake shoe hardware broke allowing the shoe to flop around or drag on the rotor/drum assembly. If drum brakes, a return spring may have broke and is rolling around in the drum. Best to take it apart and inspect it. Have you checked universal joints? Could possibly be a wheel bearing also.
