Lancia Stratos WRC

The Startos is one of my favourite cars and was built from a kit that I got for my birthday, the Revell-Germany Stratos WRC. Everything went well with the kit except for the decals. Some of them would not come off their backing paper so it is not a complete replica of the Alitalia Stratos. Because of this, I made it into a sort-of test car with not much sponsorship. ALSO I HATE PAINTING WHITE CARS!!! This is because I always seem to get a speck of dirt or another colour under it. Because of this a made my Stratos into a very muddy example.

C+C welcome,

F.C

With the mudding stuff, it lookslike real. But it could have been better if you continue with clean one.

Is there something wrong with this one aswell?

It's a nice build, the muddy look gives it character.

One of the all time greatest rally cars!

Hi,

not wrong, but lots of potential for improvements.

Yes, you are a beginner in modelling (this is your 4th or 5th model I guess), so I just want to give you some hints, where you can make some better work on your next model:

- body: if you have no airbrush, try colour from a spray can for a unicolour body next time, donīt brush.

- tires: sand the patterns to give them a used look, especially on a rally car

- reference photos: search for them before starting, f.e. the dash is usually black on this car

- body interior: the rubber around the windows should look better/cleaner at the inside of the body - think about using a marker

- decals: use softener

- dirt: once again: reference photos !!!
Look at the photo before the last one: The inner wheel well is white, on the fender is dirt - how should that happen??
Between the tire pattern could be some dirt, too ...
The left front light is clean, above there is dirt???

Take a look at this Stratos http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=974950 for inspiration.

I hope it helps on your next model

I have an airbrush but it is just old and stopped working. I think I'll be getting a new one soon. And I really paint the model to my liking! Thanks anyway, I will use this advice to build my 32nd model!

I read a lot of the WIP threads and save images for inspiration. There are some amazingly skilled builders on this board to learn from.

Above all remember you are building for yourself, although the advice that the experienced builders have to offer will for sure make you a better builder, the boundaries for adding detail and improving are endless.

Most of all remember to have fun with your models.

Do you mean the colour or the way of painting ?

So the Stratos is your 31st model? or donīt you intend to take care for the tips on your next models :dunno: ?

Please don't take offence:frown:

I thought you did a pretty good job! I can relate to making the model look the way that inspired you to build it. The chassis, decal work, paint scheme and undercarriage look convincing enough, and the assembly seems like it went without any problems. Others might have input on techniques for brush painting, but it appears like it's drying too quickly and so adding more thinner will help. I use a 50/50 mix of paint from the bottle to thinner ratio. A sprayed primer over the plastic prevents the now reduced/thinner and more fluid paint from running, a very light scuffing, with lots of soapy water, with a not too abrasive dishwashing pad also helps prepare the plastic for brush painting. Overall, nice work! :)
