I am planning on installing a lift tommorrow for my X, and in order to fit in the garage i had to remove my surco rack and lights, however i want the wiring to remain so i can reinstall when i need the extra light and luggage room. In doing so i bought 2, 4 prong waterproof connectors, the only ones i found came in 16 gauge, and my wires which have been run through the roof are 14 gauge. I installed the connectors so when it comes time to take the rack and lights on and off i can easily. My question is will the change in gauge affect reliability and is it a possible safety hazard?

Thanks,
Dave

No you will be fine! Most connectors if you look on them are usally stamped 14-16 or 10-12 ....to accomodate more sizes.
