I had to take of the intake off to fix the cheap heater hose connecter that corroded off at the manifold. I broke the TPS and the coolant sensor in the process. After replacing those sensors and reinstallation and timing to factory spec it idled at 1000rpm, it shifts at 2500rpm! I had the code checked, it was the TPS. I put it on wrong-without tension on the spring inside. I easily fixed that but it still idles/shifts high, about the same actually. Even after clearing the code. The engine light is still on. No doubt the TPS. I dont get it. Everything was put back and replaced just like it was. It sounds and runs great, but the idle and shift points are way off. I should idle at 600 and should shift at about 1500rpm. Any ideas. May I have purchased a bad TPS? Should I force an adjustment on the blocked access idle screw?

I also found that when I put my finger over the hole in the trottle body for the PVC it idled perfectly. I replaced the hose and PVC. No change-still idles high.

Sometimes I really miss the old stuff. Easier to fix!

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Did you replace the TBI gasket? Did you disconnect the EST connector when you set the timing?

gasket I did not replace on the TPS. The chevrolet service Mgr said it was ok. "It is just a dust preventor". We did disconnet the wire under the dash before we timed it. The code is still suggesting its the TPS but I know its on correctly.

How is the voltage to the TPS plug? Have good voltage and a good ground at the plug?
