Ok got the major problem fixed(thanks to old master and Chris Stewart).
Now on to the minor one.
1999 Bravada 135k miles.
Service AWD light is on all the time, and there is a clicking noise coming from the passenger side kick panel area when I start it up. I don't think the 4wd is working at all.
Where should I start to diagnose this problem?

On the rear of the transfer case there is a round tag, about 1.5" in diameter, what is the model number of the transfer case?

The '98 & newer had the electronic/encoder motor didn't it?
If the Service AWD light is on, won't a scan tool with enhanced capabilities get a code to discuss?

1998 and newer Blazer, Jimmy and pick ups had 2 choices: NV 233 (selectable) 2 speed, and NV 136 (Automatic) single speed. Both cases are electric shift. I think Bravada had the NV 136 only. I can't remember (for certain).
A capable scan tool is necessary to retrieve DTC's on the NV 136 only. To retrieve codes on the NV 233, pin #13 of the data link connector is grounded, the ignition turned on, then the codes blink on the switches. That's why we need to know the model number first. I'm guessin' it's the NV 136 because he said the AWD light is on, and AWD is the NV 136, but need to know for sure.

the bravada has the NV 136. i had this same problem and it was the AWD computer which is in the passenger side kick panel. it is probably no good which is why it is clicking.

I know of no selectable transfer case in Bravadas, they were (I hate saying that) all AWD.

I still haven't got around to getting the number for you. What would I look look for to try to price the AWD computer? Is that what it is called?
