Time to relax...

What does everyone do to relax when they get stressed or need to take their mind off something?
I was sitting here attempting to draw VSEPR models, when I needed to get my mind off of something, so I broke out my bottle of Mr. Bubble. That's right. I sat here for the past 15 minutes blowing bubbles and watching them fall back down around me. Slightly odd perhaps...but surprisingly, it does help. :)
Alas, back to the laboratory notebook...:thinkerg:

To relieve stress, and generally just relax:
Kick the wife and beat the dog!! (J/K)
I like to go to the hills, find a nice rock, kick back and watch the world go by.
others would be,
drink beer and fire off the bbq.
drink more beer and watch the tube
fish (and drink more beer)
hunt
make the bed squeak

Well, I don't really get stressed (new thread about stress coming soon), but if I'm bored and want something to do that requires little energy, I like to either drive straight for as long as possible and see where I end up, or sit on a beach (preferably with big rocks) and throw rocks into the water.

True, but parts of Canada are farther north in latitude (and sometimes attitude) than Alaska.
I'm not banging on Canadia, or it's occupants, just joking around.
When did they run telephone lines to igloos?? :D

I know, I'm just joking back :D We make fun of Canada all the time too :D:D
They run telephone lines to our igloos because the nearest neighbour igloos are 10 minutes away by dogsled in -60 weather. Phones became necessary :D:D

This is EXACTLY why they have the cable channel "Lifetime For Women" :hehehe:
Every Sunday is "Men are jerks" movies...you have the bad husband and the victimized wife.......
just teasing ya :p
For stress relief...and that depends on the level of stress....I ususally nap, throw in a DVD, or get on the computer. I take long drives when the weather is too nice to stay inside. If my hunny's not availalbe then I will take my little dog along for the ride.

It's a good thing they don't have a Lifetime for Men channel.. Then the truth would be exposed.
They would show movies like:
Man goes to work, busts his butt, comes home to filthy house, sent to store to get food for dinner and tampons.
Comes home from store, cooks dinner, does homework with kids, cleans house, all while his abusive wife yells at him.
One day he gets fed up, yells back, gets arrested for spousal abuse, while in jail, wife files for divorce, gets house, kids, cars, and 90% of his paycheck. :p :p
Now that I think of it, that would probably cause men to do self castrations!!!

I like to take my car up along the twisties, in the mountains. We have this nice little lake, with lots of curves around it. It takes me about 35 minutes to drive around the entire lake. Then about another 15 to make it back down the mountain. I find the best time to do this is late at night, when you dont have to fight with big ass motor homes.

Hmm...somehow I don't think you'd object to a long bath if a woman invited you in... :right:

I think my favorite stress release past times are talking with close friends and family on the phone, going to see/renting a movie, or taking a nice, fast drive, though usually straight line as fast as the little engine that could will take me is something I find less intensive than the twisties. Only when it's really bad do I hit the bottle when stressed (I remember doing that once during my sophomore year of college after a particularly grating conversation with an ex). After a hard day (or week!), I have little desire to drink. I suppose that pot works better than alcohol for stress release anyway.

You know, in reference to this point, I find it.. funny, that no one mentioned sex (at least not specifically) when it comes to stress release.

My stress relief:
FIGURE SKATING is number one. Nothing beats stepping out onto that ice and just gliding in any sort of pattern imaginable!!!! :p
I also like driving to get out my frustrations. I once had an asthma attack driving under stress, though, so that kinda took the fun outta that! :( Thank goodness that's the only full-blown asthma attack I've ever had, and it was basically post-traumatic stress induced...
Other than those, listening to music will calm me down, b/c I love singing. Posting in here is becoming a fave, too.

Thats a good point, an orgasim is on the best forms of stress release there is. Maybe there's a few to many prudes in here.
If you can't find someone to do it for you, then doing it on your own will still have the same affect, it releases endorphines and other natural feel good drugs whether your with someone or alone. It also tenses and then relaxes all the muscles in your body which releases more natural feel good drugs into the blood stream. There very good for you.
I also enjoy a good long drive with some Floyd on really loud.
or going out drinking with friends, it all depends on how im stressed, and what caused that stress, sometimes even lying down with a good book is good.

YES!! I forgot all about that, I do that too. I take like a 45 minute shower really hot, and just stand there, reflect on the day, sing, etc. The hot water pouring down is so massaging and relaxing.
When I'm driving when bored, one thing that really clears my mind is to pop in some Weezer (preferrably Pinkerton (especially "Pink Triangle", the lyrics and music to that are brilliant) when I need to clear my mind), crank it to near max, and sing as loud as I possibly can. I always end up coming home with no voice left.
