96 neon overheats new thermostat, waterpump, coolant temp. sensor, hoses checked, radiator checked, head checked, Everything good still overheats. heard it could be a bad ground by the starter or fan relay under battery box dirty or bad (checking them today). when it first started to overheat it read hot then went back to normal after 15 min. did everything above and it takes longer to overheat but does eventually.also checked fan relay in fuse box GOOD.Any other advice. No coolant leaks. got water in it now till i figure the problem out. Another problem is sometimes seems like it wants to not start but always does on first try.

Have you gotten all of the air out of the system? Burped the lines? Also, how did you check the radiator? After time they will form deposits on the inside (from using tap water) and clog up the lines. Might be time to replace it as well.

well the car is out for a long test drive but i think the guy who suggested a ground wire loose by the starter was on to something. I went and found out my ground was loose fix the starting problem and from what i can see that ground also leads to the wiring harness that connects with the coolant temp. sensor. so i'll find out an a hour to see if it overheated or not. i'll keep u posted but hope it don't overheat if it don't i hope this helps others. Cause it took me 2 days searching online to find that guys post.
