still got starter problems

sorry to bother you guys but my starter is still not working. i put another starter and another solenoid switch, it drags but wont start. i have the 4 post solenoid, which i dont like, thats what they sold me at advance store. all the wires except the one going to the starter is hooked on the post toward the firewall, which is the hot wire from battery, the other wire is on the post near the front of truck. which goes to the starter, the small wire is on the little post at top. is this correct? nothing is on the small post at bottom of solenoid. sorry guys but im not very educated and i have no money to keep having someone look at it. thanks

That is right.

The main difference between the three and four terminal relays is the three terminal ones are grounded through the case via the mounting bolt, the four terminal relays are not.

Here is how the 4 terminal like you have should be wired, keep in mind it DOES NOT matter which terminal you use for what, the wires just need to all go to the same respective terminals....

one of the bigs - the cable from the battery

the other big - the cable to the starter, plus all the little wires that go to the truck harness, ignition coil, etc...

one little - switch wire to the keyswitch

other little - make a jumper wire that goes from the terminal in question back to underneath the mounting bolt.

You SHOULD NOT have any, repeat any terminals that have nothing on them....

If I understand you it drags but won't start means it turns over the motor slowly. I would clean the battery terminals. Check battery voltage should be around 12.8 Volt when someone else is cranking the motor it should be over 11 volt. You may have a dead cell in the battery.

If the truck has cables with molded cable terminals and not the exposed copper bolt on terminals you might have a voltage drop inside the terminal. I've seen that on quite a few vehicles.

i sure do appreciate you guys. we found the problem after 4 part days of looking. i switched starters 4 times, solenoid switch 3 times battery 3 times, whoosh, i got tired. lol it was the ground wire from battery to the motor. we put another cable on awith the existing cable because the existing cable had some other wires leading from it, we ran the new cable to the motor and it started right up. i thought the mechanic fixed it , but he didnt. thanks a lot guys.
