some major headaches

ok i ordered my CTR pistons awhile back, and was told i need to hone the cylinder walls so that the rings would sit nicely. so i take the block to the machine shop by me, and he says that i would need to get oversized pistons, cuz when you hone the block to seat the rings, some material is taken off, and the piston wont sit right.

so my question is, if thats the case, how can anyone buy stock size pistons and use them? is this guy just not knowing what he is talking about or what? help me out here people.

I'd suggest u go to another machine shop and get a second opinion. Ur only honing it out. If your cylinder walls have a deep scratch then yeh u might be needing oversized pistons. U can get ctr .25 over bore at the same cost as standard size.

When an engine has serious wear, it's a good idea to bore the cylinders out over-size (plus, you get a little more torque). That lets you make sure everything is perfectly round, and gets rid of scratches in the cylinder walls that make an engine burn oil.
You order over-sized pistons that are larger by the same amount that you've bored out the cylinder walls. Honing shouldn't be removing any material, except for a microscopic amount. Honing is just buffing up the sides to make the rings seat properly.
I say, whoever told you this is full of it.

It's probably too late, but you should've had the block work done before you got the pistons so you would know if you neede oversized or standard pistons.

yeah thats what he said too, but i wanna keep my ctr pistons, so i think imma call another shop and see what they say about it, hopefully i wont have to return these pistons.


however, if i do, can i run stock pistons with the CTR cams? or will the valves hit the pistons cuz of the different dome?

I think the stock b16 pistons have a lot less dome than CTR pistons? i could be wrong, but that makes sense to me

Ctr cams can work with a stock b16 valvetrain and pistons with no problem:)
