heater core

I may have found my coolant leak source. When using the heat one cold day this August, I smelled antifreeze coming through the vents, but no hint of any smell otherwise.
My FSM says to remove the instrument panel to gain access to the heater core. From experience, how much of the instrument panel needs to be removed? Can it be accessed by removing the passenger kick panel and behind the glove box? Or do I really have to remove the entire dash?

The year and model would help.

You need to remove the black hush panels below the I/P and should have enough space to pull the core from there. It's been a while since I did one but I know I didn't remove the complete I/P. Access through the glove box may help.
My daughter's '95 LeSabre core comes right out through the glove box opening with the glove box removed. Piece of cake.

Thanks,
This is quite encouraging. I have discovered that with dual climate control, I have had to remove the lower hush panel to disconnect the drivers air mix controller and have to remove the programmer. I've also discovered that the vacuum line connector to the programmer often come off with the plastic nipples broken off inside. At least I found that the repair to that is easy.
So far I haven't gotten any further than that. I'll continue this evening for awhile.
