Tamiya's WRX kit from P.Man

Well Dan's had this kit all covered in his thread here before.

Thought i'd start a new one so that it keeps his one to the point on making it and i'd do a brief one on what i thought of it.

Looks to be a very basic kit to build. In two days i have almost got it painted (apart from the body) The chassis is the biggest pain in the arse to paint due to it being molded in one.

After looking at heaps of photo's etc i have decided to add different wheels and lower it.

I will be adding wheels the same as i have on my car (primera).
I have spent a lot of today cutting out the suspension arms to lower it...i have no idea how this will turn out....i'm just hoping all my mesurements are correct or i'm going to end up with a shit looking WRX.

Had to make up some small bushers on the lathe at work to get the new wheels to fit as they are totally different in the way they attach to the disc's.

The body i will paint last due to all the handling i will be doing to get the height looking just right.

Will be painted TS50

The wheels.......what colour should i paint them ????
I like the look of the ones i'm putting on to be silver....i have seen a few already done like this and it looks good.......or should i stick with the gold ????

Stick with Gold for the wheels Warren, unless you want to go with Titanium grey again like the R34.
This would be inline with the last of the old shape rally cars.
Would look good!
An idea anyway! Silver sounds a bit dodgy to me!
I thought you were going to do it like the 'Mines' version though, white with the gold multi-spkoes?

I've got the funny image in my head of you spinning these little wheels on this industrial sized lathe. :D:D

So what did you decide regarding the wheels?

Gold.

Have finished mucking around getting the height right. Took lots of cutting/glueing testing ...pulling back apart etc etc. The car will be about 2-3mm lower. The tyres just tuck inside the wheel arches. .....but i think it makes a huge difference.

Just got the rest of the painting to do then the body to sand and paint.

Well it's all painted and together.
Finished sanding the body over the last couple of days and added the primer.
Hopefully tomorrow well get a couple of finish coats on the body.
Everything has gone together well. Very nice basic kit.

Only thing i had to do that was different was cut the metal rods that went into the wheels in half and took about 10mm out because of the different rims.
Used superglue to glue them in place.

Hopefully get pics soon

Hopefully be finished tomorrow and have some pics.
The tail lights are a pain in the arse to get in. They are so tight.

The silver sticking paper they give you for the backs of the tail lights is hopeless.
I ended up using bare metal foil for a better look to the lights.
Just got to get some window tints from a place in town tomorrow, glue the windows in and get the body on and give it a big polish etc.

So far a very nice kit.
It looks so much better lowered down 2-3mm :) :) :)

Kit is all finished. Got the window tint today and fitted it and gave it its final polish and wax.
A very nice kit and the end product is very nice.
Very happy with the wheels and the lowering of the car.
Very nice basic kit to paint and put together. A bit of time spent will give you a very nice looking kit.
Heres a few pics to tell me what you think :) :)

Nice job Warren. My buddy just bought that kit yesterday. He keeps asking me what to do like I'm the expert or something. Anyway I got a good look at the chassis and well, how the hell did you lower that beast? :D

Great job pman! About the "I" emblem though... I believe its for "Impreza" because the WRX is an Impreza. I'm pretty sure.. :)

You know something, if Warren posted his pics like Lau Bak does with the backgrounds, I think even I would think it was the real thing as opposed to a model.:D

Thanks for the comments guys.
Jason.....i had to cut a lot of the suspension out and file etc to get the right look. Heaps of mucking around but with it.
When i made the bushes for the rims i slightly offset them as well....(you would never know).

Thanks again for the Rims Dan....they really *make* the model

To be honest...no.

I have always done race cars or American Muscle cars. After seeing more and more non-race cars in here like the GTR/WRX etc (thanks guys)...i thought why not.

No decals....sweet for a change :) :)

Is this the "S" you were thinking of? (http://www.optauto.com/webstore/product_information.asp?number=NIS-EM-SB2&variation=&aitem=4&mitem=11&back=yes&dept=486)

If so, its for the S15 Silvia, which I'm sure you've already noticed :silly2: . The logo you got looks wrong, I'm trying to find one that looks more "correct" :).

We have the subaru logo on the ones here We have the regular star ones, too. I remember seeing the pink emblem in the parts department, but I'm almost positive they had an "S" instead of an "I."

Edit: I can only find these four:

I guess the "I" must have been what I saw. I don't know why I thought it was an "S."

It is the I for Impreza because the WRX is an Impreza option. That would be my best guess :bloated: . I know my Silvias. I was just making sure :flipa: :D

It stands for depending who you ask: The I in Fuji Heavy/Hino Motors, the parents Company of Subaru: The I in Impreza, however it's mostly associated with STI the Suabru tuning company. All STis carry the famed pink badge.
