1969 Barracuda pro-touring

Starting with an AMT '69 'cuda with the old tooling. The chassis is molded in one piece, i.e. exhaust, trans, axle is all in one multi-lumped piece of plastic. That should make my job easier to turn it into a slammed, wide-tired, big-braked, modern musclecar. Or will it?
Body was cleaned up as usual - remove mold lines, sand off emblems that are near impossible to chrome foil anyway, deepening and widening the panel lines so they don't disappear later, and sanding/fitting all the pieces to make sure they'll fit together after painting. Primed with Boyd's Testors enamel white primer; this stuff is thick! A base coat of gloss white was shot to cover the car, followed with a custom mix of gloss white/pearl blue. The end result is an aqua/baby blue/powder blue depending on what you want to call it. I FUBAR'ed the hood so it'll be flat black with hood pins - I'm too lazy to go through the strip/sand/repaint/cure/color sand/polish thing just for a hood.

Rolling stock consists of a resin-cast combination of wheels and tires from different kits. Large diameter, cross-drilled and slotted brakes will also be resin pieces. Here you see how wide the rear tires are.

For a while I was undecided between slightly widening the bodywork or creating "mini-tubs" to house the wider tires, both methods requiring quite a bit of work. I decided the tubs would be easier especially with the 1-piece chassis. With the tires against the leaf springs, they fit right under the fender (whew). With a multi-pieced suspension I would have needed to move the springs inboard if the tires didn't fit, something you can't do with the 1-piece chassis.
The pic shows where the interior was cut out. Tubs will be formed to go over the new openings. The rear seat's bottom cushion will be covered with sheet styrene for a sheet-metal or aluminum look.

Next step... ? Until next time.

Good idea with the subs, might just do that! I was looking more into a spartan race-derived interior for the street but some speakers wouldn't hurt.
The tires are 275/40-17 front and 335/35-17 rear.

Looks great, what colour you going to do the interior? It would look alot better as a show/street car than a race car.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I had to finish the hotrod really quick and when I got back to this one I didn't take any more progress pics. Here is the end result. I didn't do any engine detail because the 1 piece chassis is garbage in the first place so why bother. I did what I could to the underside and it looks fairly decent. The resin tires were white and I painted them with Floquil "Grimy Black" which looks close enough to rubber. Exhaust tips are 1/8" tubing covered with BMF. Body is painted with automotive base/clear system; the color is "Smoke Metallic" which I believe is a Ford 2002 color. Enjoy, thanks!

edit - Oh, and why the color change, you ask? I was painting the underside of the body black when the body slipped and hit the airbrush on the way down. Since I was using a color cup and not a bottle I spilled black paint on the beautiful baby blue. The paint was so thin I couldn't rub out the black without rubbing the original paint off, so I stripped it all back down to plastic. Fun time with this model!

:bigthumb: Only thing I think you should do is foil the window trim & door handles. Then do the indicators and you'll have a really fine looking `Cuda!

Styrene tubes and epoxy. They do spin, but the calipers spin along for the ride.
The eBay thing was a test and I needed the $, that's why I put in a reserve. I got to keep it, fine with me.
