sup guys im a n00bie when it comes to engine swaps so help me out here please. I got a 93 del sol S with the basic bolt-ons and its pretty fricken slow. Im lookin for a reasonably easy engine swap. I dont have ALOT of money to spend but i got some. Could yea please make me some suggestions for an engine. Im a daily driver in highschool. I dont need anything top of the line just something other than this engine in the S.

well, you have a few choices...
1- Turbo the hell out of the good ol D block already in the S, do a mini-me swap (cheaper) to make it into an SOHC VTEC model and turbo/air kondishion that (you'll run mid 14s with that setup)
2- Swap in a b16, do the basic bolt ons, and be happy (will cost you more and you will still run a mid 14 to high 15)
3- Swap in a b16 and turbo/air kondishion the hell outta it. (really expensive.. probably around $4500 to do that.)
4- get a JDM b18c1 and be cooler than all the other ricers on the block, and do a few bolt ons with that.
5- Get a JDM H22 and run 13s - low 14s with a 220hp (stock) engine.
IM me if ya got questions.
Gearhead out.
By the way- If you're as much of a newbie as I think you are, PLEASE have someone help you swap the engine.. I have seen people RUIN cars because they thought they knew what they were doing.

check out the civic forums...this is a pretty common question on there. if u jus search a bit, u'll read about the pro's/con's of all the possible swaps.

I'll be nice and post up some of em and save you a minute or two... don't ask why I feel nice today... probably because I just paid all my bills.
SOHC VTEC mini me swap:
PROS: Less expensive, easier to do, you still keep the bottom half of the engine block already in the S model
CONS: The D block will NEVER be as powerful as it's DOHC big brother... the old no replacement for displacement idea comes in. Also, it can sometimes be difficult to find all the parts needed for the mini me swap. Needle recalibration required, and possible a new gauge cluster.
B16 swap:
PROS: More power than a D15 or D16, sounds better, swaps in easily, 0-60 in about 6.5 to 7 seconds... I don't care who you are, that's QUICK.
CONS: $$, it's gonna cost you to find one with low miles on it. Also, you have to swap the gauge cluster on the S model to a VTEC gauge cluster that redlines at 8,200 rpm, and recalibrate your needles. And if your car is an auto tranny, you're gonna have to swap to a 5spd.
B18 swap:
PROS: Most JDM b18 engines have just over 35,000 miles on them, due to taxes in Japan on vehicles with higher miles than that.. the b18 (1.8 liter) can easily be bored out to 2.0 liters.. it's also the biggest engine that will fit on the stock engine mounts.
CONS: Once again, cost... it's gonna cost you a pretty penny to get one, since they are imported from Japan (~$3800), also, they don't always pass US emissions tests. New gauge cluster/needle recalibration, and again with the 5spd.
H22 swap:
PROS: A shitload of power (220hp stock, no bolt ons), massive dynos, and one quick quarter.
CONS: You have to turn your sol's guts into a prelude, since the H22 is out of a prelude. This includes lude engine mounts. Also, the engine has to be shoehorned in, and you can do a lot of damage to your sol and the engine if you're not right on (when installed, you have less than one inch of clearance in the front of the engine, about an inch in the back, and roughly an inch and a half on the sides... TIGHT squeeze). Also, it's heavy as hell, so you lose a LOT of maneuverability. That's why the H22 is best in drag sols, since you're just going in a straight line. And if you have A/C in your sol, that makes the fit even tighter. New gauges/needle recalibration, and a 5spd too.
I *think* that's most of it.. if I think of anything I'll let you know.

Look around on the internet or junkyards for motors (its rare to find them in junkyards). Ok now then are you looking for a single overhead cam. or a double overhead cam? please note that VTEC is almost worthless without a vtec controller, which does not come with the motor.
Here's a list of decent motors-
6th gen and below
cvic motors
99-00 Si B16A2 - 160hp @ 7600 rpm
97 + type R B16B - 184hp @ 7800 rpm
92- 95- 96 + Si R 2 & vti B16A - 168hp @ 7800 rpm
90-91 Si R B16A1 - 160hp @ 7600 rpm
89-92 Vti B16A1 - 158hp @ 7600 rpm
89-92 Si R Hatch B16A - 158hp @ 7600 rpm (you can tune early ZC's pretty well also) also the crx si-R and del sol 92 to 96 came with a 168 hp b16a and 94 to 97 the del sol came with an b16a3 with 158 hp.
then there are the integra motors
97-98 2000 type R B18C5 - 195hp @ 8000 rpm the model of this motor made in japan is 197hp and it goes 95 and up.
97-98 Gsr B18C1 170hp @ 7600 rpm
94-00 Ls / Rs/Gs B18B1 142 @ 6300 rpm
95-97 Si R B18C 178hp @ 7600 rpm
from 92-93 honda made a Gsr B17A1 - with 160hp @ 7600 rpm
then there's the prelude motors (H series is a somewhat more difficult swap)
99-01 H22A2 - 200hp @ 7000 rpm
97-98 H22A1 - 195hp @ 7000 rpm
97 + Si R H22A - 200hp @ 6800 rpm
97 + type S H22A - 220hp @ 7200 rpm
92-96 Si / Se H23A1 - 160hp @ 5800 rpm
94-96 Vtec H22A1 - 190hp @ 6800 rpm
92-96 Si F22 - 160hp @ 6000 rpm
92-96 Vtec H22 - 200hp @ 6800 rpm
90-91 Si B21A1 - 140hp @ 5800 rpm
B18c1 is probably my favorite motor, you could go with the b20b (CRV motor), everyone thinks this motor is crap b/c it comes from a crv. But it just so happens that the B16A and the B18B, share the same block with with the engine's overall width of 601 mm. The B18B's 1834-cc capacity was obtained by stroking the B16A to 89 mm. Now the b20b utilizes consecutive liner construction, "quad-sequential sleeve block." the distance between the inner walls of the adjoining cylinders, are reduced to 6 mm from the separate lines' 9 mm of the b18b, while retaining the same bore pitch. This enables the b20b an addition of 3 mm to the bore of 84 mm which, combined with the B18B's 89 mm stroke increases the engine's cubic capacity to 1972 cc. Mated with the proper head this motor is deadly and a great base for a turbo, not to mention its relatively cheap (like I said check some junkyards out). I found a b18b for 350 bucks at the local salvage yard just the other day.
