Enamel paint

Is Testor enamel paint fully compatible with Tamiya enamel paint? (I mean their thinners and paints)

At least, I haven't had any problem thinning Tamiya enamel paints with Testor (and also Model Master) enamel thinner. But I've never tried the other way around (Tamiya thinner for Testor enamel paints), or mixing Testor and Tamiya enamel paints.

That's good enough, it's harder to get Testor enamel thinner in North America than Tamiya

It is? Ive never had any problems getting the Testors thinner, and up until a few weeks ago, I didnt even know that Tamiya made enamels.

ooops, typo mistake, it's the other way -> harder to get tamiya enamel thinner in NA.

They still make enamel paint, but just not sold in NA. I guess shipping tamiya enamel paint to NA is more easy than tamiya enamel thinner.

Ah, gotcha. Yea, it was a big surprise for me when I found the Tamiya enamels listed on their site. A friend of mine owns the local hobby shop, and even he didnt know they made enamels.

Warning: Testors enamel thinner is good stuff, but it contains lacquer thinner. Don't try to use it to wipe enamel paint off a lacquer base, eg, when cleaning up trim lines. Other enamel thinners do not contain lacquer thinner and can be used safely with enamel over lacquer, eg, mineral spirits.

Ok, I prefer Tamiya enamels over the other brands. But I'm going to tell you a little trick I'm using. I'm not using Brands thinners, because they're very very expensive for what they are. I'm using (called in Spain Aguarras or Trementina) Turpentine. Only for enamel paints. And know what?? It works perfect, cost me around 1.30 € per litre, and the result is exactly the same of their prducts. Never had any problems using it. And it's a good investment if you're using your enamel paints for airbrushing, like me...

Vladmar : I only use enamel paint for trim lines and weathering, not airbrushing. But thanks for your info.
mrawl : I guess I will avoid Testor thinner in that case and use lighter fluid for clean the trim lines when my last drops of tamiya enamel thinner is used up.
