95 tranny replacement ...problems

friend bought 95 (nice) without tranny. he got a 4L60e (used W/warranty) for $400 and we installed it. The speedometer connector don't fit . When driving it will never get out of 2nd. Trannys changed around 95-96. Is there a compatability issue here and does the speedo affect the shifting. I'm no tranny pro but thanks alot for any help.

No VSS signal so its locked in 2nd gear. Need to address that problem Is it a 2 or 4wd?

the 4l60 has many changes to it over a long time period , many have had compatibility issues. they are different ..

with no speed signal the pcm/computer does not know when to command shifting...

It's. a 4WD. The connector for the VSS didn't fit . I heard there is a 2 wire and 3 wire versions of the vss. Maybe a different connector off a wiring harness from the junkyard will work but I want to check compatability first. Guess we'll get a manual . Thanks alot and appreciate the help.
