On a 96+ it is under the car near the right rear wheel.
On a 95-96 it is on the firewall.
For the 95-96.. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291795981&bnak=1&bnak=1

clogged filter wll limit fuel flow, so if you are using too much gas, I would look elsewhere ;) Most likely, its an o2 sensor.

ya it sound more like something other than your filter, if the o2 is not working right it would cause those problems.

the car would smoke if it was not getting enough air, so i also dont think its a clogged air or fuel cleaner. like they said check the o2 sensor.

Did you try a basic reset of the computer?

Our cars wont smoke without enough air, since fuel is added in direct proportion to air. Less air would equal less fuel, still ~14.7:1, if the O2 sensor is good :)

the cars will still smoke...any motor will. The computer wont retard itself that much to kill the fuel flow.

if the motor calls for to little fuel the computer will run on "safe mode" like if the cel light is on.
also a have you checked for vacume leaks?
