Racing43 wheels on a Tamiya kit.

Ok, I've read the howto on converting female wheels to male, but...
I've got white metal wheels from Racing43 here, also female.
I don't have the right tools (dremel) to do the conversion, and I'm not buying one.
But I was thinking, can't I make a hole in the brakedisc so it slides over the rod of the wheel?
So, making a hole the size of the red circle.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/379168brakedisc.jpg
And then slide it over the rod of the wheel.

Now, I'm not sure at all whether this is going to work or not. Has anyone done this before?

I think you got a workable idea there, but how are you going to cut the hole with out a dremel or a drill? Either way I say try it!:D

Wonder what you're building ;)
You could try to get hold of some Fujimi brakes which will theoretically save you having to modify those, if not though, I think your idea will work as long as you have something to hold the wheel.
It looks like those Racing43 wheels were made for straight rod axles?

It's for the 2002 San Remo Rally Focus of Markko Märtin. I started working on it this week. A lot modifications have to be done. The rollcage is almost done, and today I wanted to work on the wheels.
In fact, I just finished the first one (took me a quarter of an hour to file a nice round hole in the brakedisc). Will post a picture in a moment.
I think these wheels are made for straight axles indeed. Racing43 makes white metal kits without working steering, so maybe that's why they're made like this.

That's exactly what I thought you were up to :D
The roll cage mod is one of the easiest ones if you ask me ;)

I'm too predictable :) I had this one on my mind for some time.
Here's the result. Not very clear, but believe me it's there.

Only problem is, when you rotate the wheel, the brakedisc also tuns. I found a rather clever solution for it: DON'T ROTATE THE WHEEL. :D
Getting the rollcage right isn't that hard IF you have good interior shots. They're scarce, but I found some (though I'd love to have more of them *hint *hint).

You could always make a wire pin from the brake to the bub so that the brake caliper doesn't rotate.
Maybe you could share the photos you have of the roll cage then, I have photos of the 2001 roll cage but not the 2002.
Do you have any plans for the headlights?

Most of my models are like that. Rotating wheels are just disasters waiting to happen. Been there, done that. I glue all my wheels solid now.

Sure, I've uploaded them here (http://members.chello.nl/m.kleijer/ford/).
I have some questions left, and one of them is:
- Where does the spare wheel go?
I've thought about the headlights. It might be a good opportunity for me to learn how to use putty.

That's the thread I was looking for. I remembered you did something similar, though it is different from what I did today.

If you look in this photo, http://members.chello.nl/m.kleijer/ford/200209261030_SRMarkkoincar.jpg you can see the seatbelt strap going to the back cross brace which also acts as a support point for the basket carrying the spare wheel.
From the photos I have seen of the rear interior of the 2002 car it utilises the same spare carrier as the 2001 car.
I have some plans for the headlights
If you want, you can PM me and we can 'discuss' ideas, I am away this weekend but will be home early Sunday so will be able to get back to you then.

I'm not so sure about that. In some 2002 Focus cars the spare tyre is strapped beneath that bar. I think I'll contact fordrallyesport about this, or do you have a picture of it?
I'll pm you tomorrow (also about the website), have a good weekend.

Thanks guys for bringing this up. I have also a set of Racing43 wheels, but was still in doubt of how to use them. Now I got some inspiration! Thanks Chris for the link ;)
