I'm thinking of a swap later this summer and of course i'm going with the b16. I'm a little confused about the differences in the A1, A2, and A3. I know it has something to do with transmission right? My main question is, what do i have to replace besides the engine? can i keep the A/C and power steering?

B16A2= 99-00 Si= OBDII=160hp
B16A3= Del sol VTEC=OBDI=160hp
B16A SiR1= JDM Crx= OBD0=160hp
B16A SiRII= JDM 92-95/96-00=Civic=OBDI/II=170hp

I'm missing one. Don't know what the engine code on the 1st gen Teg. You should use an OBDII engine to avoid any hassles and your power steering and AC can be retained. As far as tranny goes, you can use any B series hydro tranny.

so i'd have to get a whole new tranny? the '98 is hydro right? total cost estimate with labor?

Yes, you'd need a B series hydro. I suggest you just buy a complete swap. Total cost should be around 3 G'z give or take.

I finally found the time to call the place today. Its about a quarter mile from my house and are real convenient. www.autolinkmotorworks.com I asked them how much to drop a b16 into a '98 civic and they asked, "stick or auto? Stick. Model? Ex. A/C? yeah. You want to keep it? yeah.....total $3700.

A couple questions about that. Good price? And what exactly am i getting? I know that's a dumb question but I don't want to find out later that they had to get rid of the power steering and didn't tell me about it.

You need to ask which exact B16 and tranny you'd be getting and I kept the power steering on mine so no keeping it will not be a problem. As far as the price, I guess it's not bad considering what those damn shops charge for labor. I never pay labor so maybe you'd ask one of the guys that pay for installation like SIRII. :lol2: J/K SIRII.

a couple more quickies...

Does it cost more to keep my a/c and if so, why?

What do i do about my air intake? I got a AEM CAI on my engine now, do i have to get one for the SI?

It might cost a bit to retain AC because you'll need a new bracket. You can still use the same intake. I used my orig. AEM CAI. The only problem is that it wil take some time to get the hose around the new throttle body.

ok, i'm not understanding that last part....

what other things will i need. like a bigger fuel pump and all that other stuff?

This will take some maneuvering to get it on the throttle body. Nothing else will be needed other than what's included in the swap itself.

i belive your gonna have to use the B series AC and power steering assembly because the AC is located elsewhere i think on a b series and the bracket is different as well as the power steering, if u want it make sure it comes on the swap because those are pretty pricey if you buy them from honda straight up...i am basing this information thinking you have a D-series engine since its a 98 civic

Why not get a B18 engine?
Just a little suggestion

AC and power steering are in the same spot in the B and D series. The differences are the brackets that mount them on the longblock.

well what is it? are they located in the same places or not? and yeah its a D series in my car. Why go with the B18? Price is my main concern and i'd like to keep the ps and ac. I ain't looking at turbo it later, maybe a small shot of nitrous. Overall i just want something a little better without sacrificing a lot.

Let's see I've had both a D series and B and I've also removed the A/C on my friends GSR and my D16Z6. It's all in the same place.

when you look at the engine from the front, they are at the bottom right of the engine bay on a black bracket.
