O.K. I'm really just tired of thinking about how to swap my civic from auto to manual and I've decided just to leave it as is. If I do this do you think I could build the engine and be able to win races with a four-speed automatic? I think I'll probably be getting a D16 SOHC VTEC engine to put in the car. Do any of one know any kickass 4G automatic civics? If so please post them if possible so I can try to find something to work from as a means of inspiration?:(

once you get too much power the tranny will simply get destroyed.
if you can't do it yourself.... pay someone to do it.

if your going to build a motor, you have to get rid of the slush box.....

How much did it cost you to change your car from auto to manual? Did the shop order the parts needed or did you bring everything to them?

I dont doubt that, but a CRX with same engine, similar mods with a 5 speed will 0wnz0r j00, this is also taking into account same skill of driver. With similar mods, the engine will be putting out the same horsepower, but it takes more horsepower from the engine to drive the automatic transmission vs. manual.

5 speeds produce more torque...thats something our cars are really lacking in so you need to do what ever you can to boost it.

4 speed? Oh man...
Just pay someone to do the conversion, to a shop that does them its not a big deal and should be pretty reasonably priced. Your gearing just sucks - and it will always suck, the only thing you will be beating are geo metros and school buses... but only if the school buses are loaded with kids :o

You want to explain that statement???? Last I heard, it was the engine that produced the torque - unless you have some super-duper gearbox addon :finger:
Power is a result of torquexrpm plus multiplier, the gearbox then transfers the power to the wheels via the gear ratios at differing speed. Sure as hell a gearbox doesn't "produce" anything

Ye just the other morning, a school pulled beside me and raced. Man he beat me by like two car lenghts. I think the bus was running NAAAAAWWWS!:D
(four speed manuals suck)

good race with the school bus, btw, but EVERYONE KNOWS  TORQUE WINS RACES and schoolbuses push probably 500ft/lb of torque, they will blow away a v8 race car because they make so much torque....

Yea i have the 4spd slushbox too. Since i have awhile left on my loan, if i get the money ill probably get the switch done. And another way you can win, is when the person driving the other car cant drive. Thats how i won half my races.

it's not that automatics suck completely, there are kick ass autos for lots of muscle cars, and hell, there's a Supra in the latest SCC mag with an auto that makes 1000 hp and runs low 11s... there are just no good auto tranny packages for our 4th gens... that's the problem.

That was kind of an odd statement wasnt it...sorry..lemme explain a little better...
what i should have said is automatics rob torque kind of like squishy motor mounts do...not in the same way but you get the picture..
"produce" wasnt the right word was it.
