Theft light - Can't Start

I am a owner of a 1996 Chevy Calier Base sedan. The car will start everytime and cuts out two seconds later. I have heard that one needs to solder a resister between two wires at the ignition lock. Any specific information to do this so as to disarm the theft lock system would be appreciated.
