I just bought a 2008 kia optima LX from a car dealership about 2 weeks ago and when I pulled it off the lot I realized it was pulling to the right a little. So I called the dealer back and told them it needed to be aligned. They told me to bring it back and I made an appointment to do so. When I brought it back he told me it was gonna be $70. That wasn't going to fly with me so I took argued a little with the guy and left. They told me since I already signed all the papers it was all said and done and it was now my expense. But I rememered I had a 3 year alignment at tires plus on my old car and forgot it was transferable. So I took it to tires plus to get it aligned. When I was there he told me I had a month left on the three years and so I paid for another 3 year alignment for only $99 which is a great deal. When he had the car up on the lift doing the free inspection he noticed that the rear brakes were completely worn down to the metal. And he actually took me out to the car and showed me. Sure enough the inner rear pads were completely gone. He told me that he didnt feel comfortable letting my drive off out of there in the condition the vehicle was in. I called the dealer and explained it to him. The dealer gave me the run around telling me each car they sell goes through there service station before it is sold. I told them i just bought the car and there is no way the brakes would wear down that quickly so something must be done. He told me to come back to them the next day and they would work something out for me. I went back into tires plus and told the guy and he quickly told me again that it was dangerous to wait any longer on getting the brakes fixed. He then called the dealer himself and explained what was going on and the dealer started to argue a little with this gentleman about how all he wanted was a sale. And I know we all have to make money here and of course tires plus was trying to get the sale but this is my wives car and I didn't feel comfortable letting her drive it unsafe. So the dealer told them to fix it and to bring the old brake pads into the dealer the next day and we would discuss something to work out. So I paid tires plus to fix these brakes. My question is, I am going to be stuck with this bill or does the dealership have some obligation to work something out for me since the sold me a potentially dangerous vehicle? I am going in to the dealer tonight with the old pads and talking with the sales manager but I need to know what options I have. I do not want to be walking into a line of fire with these guys. It always seems right after you spend $20,000 a car that the people you bought it from never want to work with you. All smiles and hand shakes until the papers are signed and then its excuse after excuse. Again, I just bought the car a couple weeks ago, so its not like its a couple years or something. Please let me know. Thank you.

It all depends on what they told you. If they told you there was nothing wrong with the car then they should be liable for it. If they didn't make a peep, you didn't ask questions or they didn't advertise any sort of inspection then it was up to you to have the car looked over. Once you sign the papers you pretty much own the problems unless the place you bought it from has any sort of integrity or empathy.

Certified doesn't mean much. It's just a fancy way of saying we really, really, really checked this vehicle out for your safety and we can't find anything wrong. If you believe this, I have a really, really, really nice piece of land that I think you will like! Lexus is the only true certified and will back the vehicles. I think you are well in your rights to push the dealer to reimburse you full value for the brakes and alignment. If they don't, report them to the BBB and let them know of your intentions. This should make them change their minds.
