Revell DTM cars are available

...just a quick heads up -- the Audi 2009 DTM racer is now available. I saw a lot in Modelzone in London yesterday, but I didn't buy one, because I was travelling light to a meeting and didn't have anywhere to put it! However, the box feels nicely heavy and full..
I'm sure it won't be long before someone gets some pictures on here...
bestest,
M.

I work for Tamiya Model Magazine and will be building one of these for the mag. The one I have is the Schieder Audi I believe, looks quite a foxy wagon with its matt black bodywork...
The kit itself looks quite nice, lots in the box including carbon decals for the rear wing. Looks a bit like Revell have moved their game on a bit with these, but will reserve judgement until I have got it together to see parts fitment and overall ride height, track width etc. But from opening the box and seeing what's inside, I'm pretty pumped about cracking this one out!
Cheers,
Jon Winter

Got mine yesterday.
The parts fit looks good, however all the positioning pins and bits used for this have added to the negative side of the kit and the body is full of sink marks (at least in my kit).

Hello all,
got my Kit today. Some Parts are disappointing, especially the Body: Plastic is thin (good), but the roof has some sinkmarks and bubbles:

The single frame grille is very simple, no separate Mesh is included.....

Hi Daniel,
thanks for this very intresting review. :)
These are the first pictures I see from the new Revell Kit.
I think that the the fitment is on the same good level as the Ferrari California.

It's got an engine!! Reminds me a little of the early Tamiya DTM kits.
I can't wait to get mine, but my LHS messed up with my order :jerking:, so now have to wait

I have to say a thanks to mattbacon for the heads up on modelszone stocking them. They're usually quite stagnant at updating their stock but they seem to have a bit more variety now. Picked mine up and waiting on the Merc to make it's appearance.
I don't know if it's just with a few kits but mine has no sign of sink marks and only a few areas that need flash clean up.

So, any updates?
I'm curious about the Schieder (the one pictured by Nudel) car, if it's a true flat black or if it's more semi-gloss. I've seen some reference pics but can't tell that well. (In the pics, it's overcast and raining...)
Still trying to decide between the Scheider Audi and the Paffet MB...hmm...
Thanks!

Instructions call for sily-matt black which might be translated to a satin or semi-gloss black. I don't think flat black would be correct.

I was kinda disappointed that these don't include the "winglets" on the quarter panels. They need to be thinner than plastic, I'd guess. Maybe not. I see where the edges are included but not the wings themselves. Hmm.
i wonder what the quality of these products are? I've never heard of them before...

Yeah, it's pretty anemic. Hopefully hobby design or the like will do a nice set like they have been for some of the Fujimi F1 and Tam MotoGP kits. Those are pretty nice.

I feel these models are becoming very popular, hopefully we will see better things in the next months.
And coming back to one of the first questions of this post, for the Schieder car, what would be your way to go for the paint finish? Considering the way the decals are designed, they have several clear sections which would cause silvering when applied over a flat finish, I have seen the flat finishes on these cars and from my appreciation they are flat not satin or semi-gloss.
My first though was to apply the decals over a gloss finish to avoid silvering and then cover everything with a flat transparent coat but then the decals will result also with a flat finish, which in terms of accuracy is not correct, because in every picture I have seen, the decals on the real car have a semi-glossy plastified finish contrasting against the flat finish of the body.
Or I can cut out the transparent film of every decal... LOL
What would be your approach?

i) why would you polish a semi-gloss top coat?
ii) how would a polished semi-gloss top coat replicate a flat/matt finish?
What would be your approach?
if it's the clear decal parts silvering over flat/matt that is going to be the issue, then the only real way around it is as you suggest; to cut out every clear section...
an alternative is to decal as intended then attempt to mask off and spray the matt sections but that is an equally big and risky job.
edit:
just had a better look at the car in question.
i'd be tempted to spray the car flat/matt, then use the decals to make negative masking guides to spray down some regular gloss clear on top of which you apply the decal.
It may end up a bit thick in appearance but at least the decal would adhere properly without silvering.

I think when i plan on building mine im going to paint it normal ts black, semiclear gloss and finally decals with no top coat. But i think im going to build the kristensen car first, i like the livery the most.

I have this kit about two months now and I started it. I cant say revell moved somewhere higher. incorrect front headlights, body twisted in my case, 3 tyres wider one slim. body full of sinkmarks(other parts too) bonnet wont fit with front bumper or doors so u heve to glue it or leave removed, toyish suspension....I like interrior. there are nice details.also chassis comparing to tamiya super GT cars looks more nicer. those faults are not so bad but it wont make your building happy

i) why would you polish a semi-gloss top coat?
ii) how would a polished semi-gloss top coat replicate a flat/matt finish?
I just did this with the rear frame on my YZR 500 MotoGP bike. It had sponsor decals on the SG black frame. Silvering is an issue with these decals, so I SG cleared them and then polished the ridges of the decals down to make it look at least somewhat more realistic. It worked for me. There is still a small amount of height for the decal left, which is necessary for true realism. Sorry, I thought it was clear (no pun intended) why you'd want to polish decals. In the end, it's all about preventing silvering and getting some more realism.
I'd do the same thing for the body decals. Again, trim the excess film, clear and polish. (Now, I don't polish the whole thing, just the decals. I then clear over the polished decal/surrounding area.)

I've been working on that Deutsche Post version. IMO, I kind of like the color and livery scheme. I'm not the biggest fan of Coulthard, but oh well...
I'd love to see the older Original Teile or the test version, though, albeit with modifications.

Thanks ! Both look great.
The test version is tempting me a bit more.

Patto's Place (http://members.optusnet.com.au/pattosplace/home.html) is a site out of Australia & he does DTM decals for the 2009 cars.I'm looking at the Red Bull cars from Ekstrom & Tomcyk & also Stoddart & DiResta from Mercedes.
I've never tried them yet & dont know the quality is for them but willing to try,I havent bought yet because i'm waiting until after the Xmas post rush then I'll give them a try!
