Fuel Pump Access

This may be an odd request, but I was wondering if anyone knows or has access to a gas tank (mine is a 2000 Sub 1500).

What I would like is a set of dimensions to the center of the fuel pump I could use to reference to the inside so I could cut an access hole (under the rear seat) to replace the fuel pump. Maybe something from the center of the forward mounting strap, N-S and E-W.

I was looking under the truck the other day but the tank is too covered in stuff to find the fuel pump. I can't even touch it in place.

I don't have to replace the pump yet, but I think it may be close--probably this winter.

I've seen this mod done on another forum and the replacement time goes to about 30 minutes.

I'll post some pictures when I do this modification.

Thanks

use an 1/8 inch drill bit. then drill a hole thru the floor.using this as a reference mark out the floor and cut out a section with a cutoff wheel. make the hole bigger than you need. using some heavy gauge galvanized metal cover the hole and using a good sealant like dow 795. seal the edge and use very short sheel metal self tap screws to hold the panel in place.

Most likely you'll have to drop the tank to get the N-S, E-W references you need. Keep in mind you'll also have to have room to get the electrical and fuel line connections off and back on.

Good luck
