06 Wheel Speed Sensor

Hey! I have an 06 with 60000 miles. ABS and Traction Control lights came on the other day, so i took it to a shop and they said right rear wheel speed sensor wasn't responding. So I called local dealership to get a sensor and they said that the sensor rarely goes bad by itself, usually the hub bearing assembly goes bad causing the sensor to go bad. Is there any way to check ? Any one else hear of this?

If this is the case how difficult are the rear hubs to get apart. I have done one front one. The rear has drum brakes.

You can do a resistence check on the sensor it self if you have any knlowledge on doing so with a multi meter. Is it awd? if it is its a lot harder to replaced the bearing/hub asm

Yes it is awd, how can i check the resistance on the sensor? what is the best way to take the hub assembly out on a car with drum brakes?

99% of the time its the sensor. you need to remove the drum and axle nut. then you have to remove the 4 bolts on the backside that hold the hub asm in place.Make sure that the axle is loose in the hub.you may have to remove the brake shoes, depends how siezed the hub is.I just use a hammer and carfully hit the hub from side to side untill its loose enough to pull out, make sure that your abs wire is disconnected. If the hub is siezed in you will need to remove the brake shoes so you can hit the hub harder without damaging the shoes. My trick with this, is I get a bigger hammer :p gl

So you're saying that 99% of the time the sensor is bad. I checked the resistance with an Ohm meter and found all 0's on the side in question. So I pulled the opposite side and found 168.5 ohms. Which to me sounds like a working sensor. Is this the correct assumption?

Your right on the money, the sensor is bad.

Thanks man, I was dreading putting a hub assembly on!

I don't think that you can get a sensor separate, I think that you have to change the whole bearing asm, but check it out.

Got a sensor on order from a local Chvey dealer......$44. Didn't think that was too bad!
