Mechanical Water Temp Gauge

I'm wanting to install a Mechanical Water Temp Gauge. My '99 CVPI has the aluminum crossover at the front of the engine, I'm thinking about drilling and tapping there for the sender bulb. Has anyone tried this? Is there an alternate location to get a good temp reading on the 4.6 head? My gauge has 6' of tubing from bulb to gauge. I plan on mounting it on the "A" Pillar.

Thanks

There should be a circular point on the opposite side of the aluminum crossover of the ETC sensor. Drill and tap in that circular area, and you will be safe. This is the location where the second sensor used to be located in earlier 4.6L engines (when 2 sensors were used) so it is an accurate reading.

I have thought about that spot, but with a 6' long bourdon tube, I think thats too long of a reach from the "A" pillar. I read of a plug in the side of the block on the drivers side, that some guys have mounted an electric sensor for a gauge; I wonder about just extending and adapting to that spot for my mechanical unit? Of course, it would have to be insulated to read correctly. but that shouldn't be a problem.
