Offhand, I would have to agree with you that it's the IAC.

You might try cleaning the throtle body and throtle air bypass valve.

I have been told that ford had alot of problems with this, and has came out with a plate that restricks it .
The 93 i got has a home made plate on it, I got a new IAC it went crazy.
Come to find out the mass air flow was dirty, the eleiments were dirty,
Sorry let me back up.
It would miss and had no power at low speeds, and now highway trying to keep it at one speed it would cough and buck.
cleaned mass air flow runs very good , got rid of the bosh plugs today, even runs better.
now iam thinking on putting the new IAC back on, as i took the new one back when it didnt help.
now that the truck runs good hope it makes it idle right. i want the fast idle , winter is coming up.
1993 ford ranger 246,000 miles, no rust 31 x 10.50 x 15 mudders.
first ford i ever owned other then a 1968 GT mustang in high school
