91 Lumina, 3.1
When I use the turn signal I have to pull it back towards me just slightly for it to work, a little smoke comes up from the steering colum. Am I going to ruin something if I keep using my turn signal? Or do I need to replace the signal switch.

just wondering if you found the problem. I have the same problem but there is no smoke.

The multifunction switch on the column is a common failure item.

No it hasn't done it again and everything seems to still work.

Replace the turn signal switch. As previously mentioned it fails quite often.
Unfortunately, the issue often goes unnoticed to the driver because everything appears to be working fine. However, what happens when the switch fails is that only the middle/3rd brake light comes on when applying the brakes and neither of the rear turn signals actually turn on despite the front turn signals working fine and blinking at a normal pace along with the turn signal indicator lights in the dash.
