Junk yard engine or a rebuild?

I have a 95 Riviera, and i have a terrible knock from the bottom side. The car has sat for about 9 months and was started recently, now it is smoking from everywhere! I was told the knock could be a thrown rod. I am considering buying an engine from the junk yard. The car has a rebuild tranny in it that about 3000 miles on it, the sc is also rebuilt. Should I invest in a junk yard motor or would a rebuild be a better option?

A rebuilt engine is the best way to go, but more expensive, your call.

If you could find a junkyard engine in a car that you can run, and run it till it's warm, then check the oil pressure and the sound of it, you might find yourself a reasonably good engine.

If you plan to keep the car for maybe 50K miles, a rebuilt wouuld be a good idea. One has to look at the cost of a rebuilt and compare it to the worth of the car; if the percentage is too high, it might not ba a good idea.
