AC problem 2001 Cavalier

Ok im new to this forum and dont know much about cars but am a quick learner.

So heres the problem about two years ago the air cond stopped working and I thought it might need to be recharged but thought I could live without it. so untill a couple of weeks ago I was able to stand it, well its been friggin hot in chicago and my friend had a recharge can and gave it to me I went to autozone to get the pump for it but it was $15 just for the pump the lady that worked there said if I go outside I can use the peoples pump out there that were trying to make a buck fixing cars on the side the guy let me use it but it wouldnt suck it down. The compressor wasnt running so the guy told me it might need to be shocked he tried that, nothing.Then he wired the green wire to the battery and it works fine I have been using it this way for a few weeks no problem I just have to connect it and disconnect it if I am going to leave the car off for a couple of hours so it doesnt drain the battery. My question is I bought a switch I need to know how to wire it properly the switch has power acc and ground which wires go to the switch and battery??? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Really you have not explained all this problem up to the mark its really confusing.....

Sounds like the guy put 12 volts directly to the compressor... While you may feel cool and comfortable and think everything is ok, continually running the compressor like this will cause damage to the system..

I agree. There are sensors to protect the compressor. Seems bypassing it and will cause the damage.

Yes that is what he did he direct connected the 12v wire which is green to the battery its been working fine i have been told buy a couple of mechanics that chevy cavaliers have weird problems with the ac and alot of them go into protection mode and a lot of the time there is no problem. Now a couple of you are saying that it can cause damage, damage to what if its just the compressor I am willing to take the chance if it can damage my engine thats another issue. And by the way ive been running it a lot for over a month no issues all I want to know is the easiest way to wire up this switch. Thank you all for the replies

What could happen is.... .first, the reason you added freon is that you have a leak. If the leak was not found..in time it will leak out again. The A/C compressor has a low level sensor that will not engage the clutch when low... to straight wiring it will by-pass the protection and burn up the pump... Now you have two problems...the wiring or senor is bad and you have a burned up compressor....

On the other hand...Keep the freon low side that the correct pressure by adding freon periodically....and it could run for years ....
