I'm interested as well. Seem to be a lot of 4 cylinders around this year and last. Are you satisfied with your 4 cylinder on the highways? Phil Edmonston seems not to think too much of this car, but he is down on most vehicles, I think.

I just bought a 2010 last week. I got an unbelievable deal given the currrent 3000 rebate and using the AAA car buying service (I joined AAA for a single year for about $60.00 just to use the service and am glad I did because it instantly saved me about 1800.00 and a lot of hassle). I bought an LS because it had just about everything I wanted standard -- only had to add about $400 in options. I was particularly interested in the LS because it has the 4 spd auto trans instead of the 6 spd. I had rented a Saturn Aura with the same 6 spd and was not really impressed with the way it shifted during highway passing, although it was good having the extra gears while cruising at high speed. Bottom line was that I figured the 4 spd would be more reliable, as I have the same engine/tranny combination in my 2007 Cobalt with 85,000 miles and it still shifts silky smooth and feels indestructible (and by the way still has the original brakes pads with about 40% remaining!). As for the Malibu itself, it really is an impressive car for the price, given that they all include rear independent suspension, antilock brakes, traction and stability control and side airbags -- and the great 5yr/100k powertrain warranty It's also a sharp looking car in certain colors, depending on taste. The overall ride is nice and it feels solid and stable on the highway. Power is more than adequate, although like all 4 cyl cars, you shouldn't be afraid to floor it if you need to for a merge. Anything you feel you are missing in power will be more than compensated for if gas prices top $4.00 gallon again.
