I took my sienna 2000 to have the oil changed and the mechanic put 5 Qts of syntetic oil instead of 4.5 by mistake, will this cause any problems to the engine? Needles to say he is not getting my business any more.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I do not think this will cause any problem.
You can check the level on the dipstick.......making sure the vehicle is on level ground.....
If you feel it is too high.....you could remove a small amount.
But....again.....I am thinking you are fine.

Overfilling the engine with oil does matter. The Question is how much extra oil will cause you concern. It can cause the crankshaft froths up the oil (creat air internally in crank case). A overfilled sump also increases the crankase pressure and puts a strain on the oil seals and can cause engine oil leaks, crank seals blow ect...Guess it depends on is that 1/2 qrt to much or not. Remember the oil filter will take some of that extra oil but not much. It is to late now, if it had ill effects the damage has already started. I would change eninge oil now and make sure it is topped off properly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. If you start to leak oil you know why (If your engine hasn't started knocking yet I am sure you are fine from that stand point)

Look at the level on the dip stick.......you might well be just fine.
I am thinking 1/2 quart would only have you very slightly over.....and there is some room for error.
