Master Kill Switch

Hi,

I just installed a 2nd master kill switch, it is in series with the original switch on the dash,
problem is that neither one of them will stop the car from running :uhoh:

( I don't think I ever tried to stop the car from running with the original
dash kill switch!)

I think this is due to alternator feedback.

My question is, how do I correct this, what wires need to be changed?

Thanks,

bob

curious - as only one of mine kills the car, the other cuts my accessory power but car still runs -- worked before I took it all apart.

You need a battery cut off / kill switch. If you do a web search there are many different types made. I'm pretty sure Sparco and Longacre make them along with others. You have to run the MSD power + through the switch which has either separate blade or stud & nut terminals just for ignition. Simple install and a very smart play.

you need a switch that kills the battery AND the alternator power to the car...

So essentially, run the alternator wire to the kill switch as well as the battery, OR at the very least make sure the fuel pump runs directly to the kill switch. Mine was the same way i had to actually flip the starter switch down to kill the fuel pump.

Either get a 4 post disconnect switch or wire the hot lead from the alternator to the side of the switch connected to the battery. This way the alternator is disconnected from the car when the switch is off.

Thanks guys :smooch:

I went with "Gatorac's" suggestion, either switch will now kill the power
and stop the engine.

Sure hope we get checked for this at tech !!

Thanks Jim
We were just ready to do this on our Chump Car Miata and were wondering how to do this.
Thanks
