I have a 2001 4wd quad cab 4.7/auto(45rfe) with 45,000 miles on it, the trans fluid was changed 15,000 miles ago, a couple of months ago i noticed the rpm's jump about 100 rpm's a couple of times in about 20 miles since then it's gotten worse now it does it constantly, it's most noticeable above 40 mph, and especially above 65mph, it does it with the cruise on or off, i checked for vacuum leaks and didn't find any, vacuum at idle is 15 inches, fuel pressure at idle is 44 psi, i know this is on the bottom end of the good range 44-54 psi per the manual, is this low enough to suspect the fuel pump?
According to the manual the only fuel filter is part of the fuel pressure regulator and can't be serviced seperately, it sounds like you have to change the fuel pump module if you have problems with the filter/regulator or pump, does that sound right? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
After checking coils and spark plugs, they all checked good, i decided to change the TPS ( throttle position sensor ). The problem was the TPS now it runs great.
