88 K1500 Steering column loose

'88 K1500, 207k miles The steering column suddenly loosened up a few weeks ago. You can pull gently on the steering wheel in any direction away from the column and it moves a good 2 inches (but is tight if you pull straight back.) It seems to be something with the tilt since it is loose at that joint. The truck still drives just fine and it hasn't affected the steering other than the steering wheel itself. I've done plenty of work on both ends of a steering column but I don't even know what that tilt joint looks like inside let alone what has loosened/broken in there (it went from tight one day to this the next.) Anybody have experience with these tilt steering joints?

There are three torx heads screw that come loose all the time time on these. Unfortunately the column needs to be torn down almost entirely to get at them. If you are not experienced with these I would not recommend it. Basically everything from the tilt pins forward will need to be removed. There are a lot of parts that need to be removed and put back exactly as they where!
