carb. air box

I have made the conversion to a carb !!! Before finial jetting I'm looking to built a cold air intake / box to collect air from the base of the windshield between the hood struts; has anyone looked into this ; 80 degrees has to be better than 200 ... Thanks / Paul W.

Paul, we added a cold air box to the car prior to last years 6 hour race. We fabricated per photo below. Not hard to do and as you have indicated, helps ensure that installed power is maintained via lower inlet temps. We used a rubber seal around the top to help seal against underside of bonnet. Seal was obtained from awreckers yard. We fitted two threaded rods to act as stays and help keep the cold air system in place. These were fitted either side at the rear of the tray and replaced
manifold bolts. You can just see the right side rod coming up through the back of the tray in the photo below. Did this to stop the carb stud from getting fatigued and breaking.
