Rear diff gasket

Is the rear diff gasket reusable on an 05 Silverado Z71? I thought I read somewhere they were.

the oem gasket is reuseable if it was not damaged when removing..


I coat the gasket with silicone sealant very thinnly both sides allow to cure for 30 min then install on the metal cover that has been cleaned with some paint thinner...then the diff housing cleaned as well install the cover/gasket..

next time when removing the gasket usually comes of with the cover ..

I can get 3x out of it .. paint the diff cover if you have rust belt conditions

if its the eaton locking diff use the synthetic ...75-90wt

I have been using the mobil synthetic gear lube for this rear diff..works very good , fast locking on slip...


the front diff I use the castrol 80-90wt non synthetic..

that does not sound correct or good...limited slip should not be on a 2005 Z71...

eaton locker with the 3.73 ratio is what most have ..some with no locking diff or a different ratio..check the glove box for you diff code..

call dealer with your vin # and this will reveal your diff spec...


If you did have a limited diff not that I in any way say or believe you do you,,,,,,,,/ you would use the 80-90wt non synthetic C gear oil with 4OZ. of limited slip additive...

I have this diff in my 1996 impala SS ..this is not for trucks..
