Hi everyone, new to the forums!
So I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy, and today while taking my GF home I ran into some car troubles :frown:
The "Service Engine Soon" light starting flashing and my car was making some wierd noise. So when I came to a stop at a red light and then started accelerating at green my car could barely move, so I turned it off then turned it back on and the same thing, it was moving, but moving very slow and it got just enough movement to get me into the nearest parking lot but it stalled once I got into the lot.
I then tried to accelerate and car's RPM and everything goes up and so does the MPH needle but the car doesn't move. Same thing when I put it in reverse. I also noticed the car was kind of shaking, so I opened the hood and the engine was shaking violently causing the car to shake from side to side.
Does anyone know what the issue could be? I heard it could be something minor like a bad cylinder or a broken sensor, but I want to be sure. I cant afford a new car right now and I dont have the money to get anything really expensive done to it right about now. Any help as to what is causing the issue would be greatly appreciated!

Many things can cause this, you do have a bad misfire, which can be a bad fuel pump, plugs, wires, internal engine issues there is no way to diagnsoe this online, get it to a reputable shop, do not try to drive it though!

First thing to do would be to scan for codes to see why the CEL is on.
Post back what you find so we can help further or like max said, take it to a shop and have it looked at.

Definitely post the codes... some of the symptoms you describe are classic torque converter/transmission issues, and other symptoms are classic engine issues.
When you say that the RPMs and the MPH go up, that suggests rear axle issues.
The symptoms you describe have very vast possibilities so codes would be very helpful

Hey guys, sorry I havent posted in a few days.
It turned out that I had a bad fuel pump. I got it fixed and my car drives great. It runs a lot better and feels like it has more power, which is nice.
The "Service Engine Soon" light is still on, but the lady at the Repair place told me that a tune up would take care of that because i need new spark plugs and wires and such. my car kind of jerks itself forward when i go over 50 mph, it isn't all the time but it happens on occasion and i'm told it is possibly spark plugs. but the lady at the repair place really recommended i get one soon, so i am taking it in next friday for the tune up.

Glad it's not something expensive like an engine problem!

Did you almost collide with a F-250 pickup full of some gruff looking characters who clearly pulled out into the road in front of you, and later meet up with one of them at a convenience/gas stop?
Did you leave your hood open when you went into the store?
