hu my engine sounds like a rock crusher
odd thing with my 96 GS the engine sounds like crap. no i'm not talking a little crappy but like mega crap. its got 130K on it, doesn't burn oil, has a small leak but dam it sounds horrid.
not so much a slap or a grinde rather metal on metal.
it appears to be comming from between the engine and the tranny. but only at idle and in the morning. in the afternoon no problem.
do all mitsu engines sound like this? or is it just my engine?
I know toyota cellica engines are a bit odd sounding.
also during hard acceleration i hear a whistling sound. what the hell is that!
Thanks

Does it sound like one of those stone tumblers? It sounds like something in your tranny let go. One of my bolts from my flywheel separated & it was equivalent to a rock being shaken around in a coffee can. Do you know what I mean?
Good luck man, your best bet is to take it to a mechanic if you're not positive. Otherwise you're going to play a guessing game on parts.

I had a sound too, it sounded like plastic being thrown around in the engine. It happened only on idle too... It turns out it was my timing belt. Whats worse is when you drive on it, it kills your engine. Mine, one morning, i turned the car on, and it sounded horrible, and it wasn't only at idle anymore. It turned out i messed up everything down to the bearings cause the timing was off. When your timing belt lets go, your pistons don't fire on time, and everything is off coordination. Basically, it's cheaper for me to put a new motor in the car than to fix it.

If it sounds ANYTHING like i described, DO NOT drive your car, and tow it to a mechanic and have them replace your timing belt and fix any little damage to your engine.

it stopped
no for real, today it was sooth as silk! freaky GS
WTF! OK ok well at least it stopped. I guess it just had a bad night. I can relate to that, we have all has those bad nights. the car has its issues, don't we all.
here is the story,
it has 130k on the engine but the previous owner blew the head at 60k so its got a relatively new head. but the car sat in a garage for a year before I bought it. I changed the timing belts at 100k.
I wonder if I should put in a new one?
the car still has power and pulls pretty good. revs pretty good to but as I said it whistles. at around 3000-40000 is whistles. nothing bad or any thing just whistles. I'm going to give it a compression test some time soon. so...
the body is good, no rust a few dents but no rust.
ah I don't know. maybe I'll get rid of it and get a VW VR6?
well see, I like the fact that it handles like a go kart but, I don't want to drop 2k on repairs on a car that's worth only 5k .

If it's only gone away of it's own accord, I'd still get it checked out; it might come back to bite you in the ass in a month or two

And the whistling you're referring to could be the intake maybe ? is it a turbo, or does it have an aftermarket induction kit on it ?

I wouldn't change my Galant for ANY VW - and I work for a VW dealership in the UK ! :bloated:

ok so I was pissed off at my car on Saturday and decided to see what hell was really causing all that racket. so I put the car up on jack stands.
wired it so I could rev it while I was under the car (pleas don't try this at home, unless you are a fucking idiot like me). turned on the car and revved the engine to see if I could hear that god dam sound.
ah I found it, one of the sheet metal shields that cover the exhaust has rusted a bit and had broken and was rattling and rubbing agents the bottom of the engine. so ever time I revved the engine the the flex plate would flex, which would cause the sheet metal to rub.
so tada ripped that one off and life is good again. but what the hell is that whistling sound t 3kRPM?
theory, one its the cams or its the air intake?
who knows?
oh yah one more thing before I go and accidentally drive over my self,
went to Wal-Mart to buy wax for the car two weeks ago. found this stuff, engine restore. looks like crap and doesn't taste too good either but I dropped it in works great for old engines.
ok that's that ok take care every one

Consumed?
nah! just kidding, who the hell would even think of drinking oil?
Well the Bush Family maybe but not any normal human.
I would not recommend it. funny thing though if you look at the can it comes it, it states that it should not be used internally.
now I want to know what dumb ass used this crap?
