ignition switch removal

I have a 1991 325i that im trying to remove steering column cover to replace ignition switch. but even though I have both books one goes to 1990 and the other starts at 1992. This is the year before standard drivers side air bag. I have most everything off but it is connected at the top where the two pieces come together and it just feels like im going to break it. Any one know how its attached
