:runaround:Hi EV1:runaround:
New to forum and need some help desperatly!!!! I have been having a hard time starting my 2003 Sonata(has 141,000 mile on it). When I turn key the engine cranks for a bit before turning over and then most of time will die and I will have to start again. Its been doing this for a bit and 2 weeks ago after trying to start the engine light came on also and I smelt gas like it flooded itself but it did start up
Took to Hyundai and they pulled the code and did the idle air control?( I think thats the name) well 2 days later, engine light came on again!!! Took it back and they said it was fuel pump, so changed that and engine light is out but still does not start up properly..My timing belt was done abt 2 months agao but this was doing it before that was done also...So needless to say they do not seem to know why it is doing this and I cant keep affording for them to play guessing games.
Does anyone have any ideas? One of these days its not going to start and then Im going to be stuck somewhere so any help you can give me is greatly appreciated

Have all the usual things been checked? Spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, ignition coil pack? Sounds like you need to take your car somewhere else. Talk to friends, find out the name of a trusted local mechanic and take it there. They need to go back to basics (fuel/air/spark) to see what is causing the situation and correct it instead of throwing parts at it in the hopes they get lucky and fix the problem.

There are lots of good technicians around but I think there are even more who really don't seem to have a clue and if there is no Check Engine Light on where they can scan for codes that will point them in the right direction they throw up their hands in defeat. Often having a code isn't a definitive solution and there is still diagnostic work to be done to solve a problem.
