HID Question

My Sylvania Silverstar Ultras needed replacing in my 2005 Silverado. One burned out and in putting the old bulbs back in so that both sides matched the second Ultra stopped working. So...I'm thinking of getting a set of HID bulbs with the ballasts. There are a lot of Xenon blue bulbs out there but that's just the color...I want the real Xenon HID lights.
Anyone put a set in their truck or even a car for that matter? I've done a Google search but there seems to be conflicting stories on which sets are good so I need some actual first hand experiences.
Thanks,
Sonny01

Whatever you decide on, make sure you wear good cotton gloves, if they're halogen, to put them in. Finger oils will burn halogens out in no time.

i have HID's in highs and lows in my truck and they are extremely bright, i get at least 3-4 cars that flash there brights at me just within a 10 mile trip. but it has kept me from hitting plenty of deer though. not sure what kind mine are i bought them and the guy installed them.

HID xenon lamps will require careful installation..the auto on feature must be killed or the ballst for the HID is destroyed.

you must have a solid 12volts at the ballast at all times.

cost is about 400.oo for the parts . If installed properly should outlast the OEM by 2X . also HID uses less watts , more lumens ....

so after you install this correctly , turn on lamps after the engine is started..before shutting down engine , turn lamps off..this will increase life of the ballast...

The HID bulbs are a lot longer and my headlight enclosure has a little cap like thing that the regular bulbs fit under. I can't see how a longer bulb would fit.

They will fit, I've got an 03 and was worried about the same problem, I have Highs/Lows with HID and love em, downside to to Highs in HID is that when someone flashes ya you can't shine em back.

I also went through 2 sets of Sylvania Silverstar Ultras and I think it has alot to do with the auto light feature on the truck it burns em out quicker. I still can't figure out how to shut it off. I've seen that people have them turned off through an obd2 scan tool but havent found out how.

I shine them back anyway. I bought a set off of ebay and put them on my integra as a test. Work well for $150. The set I bought he used a relay a fuses to protect the factory circuits. Only prob I had is one of the fuse holders got water in it and rotted but it was a cheap fix. I will try to find a link and post...
