Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599

Started this after i get many inspiration from Ramon's Hamann 599, not going to be exactly, just few elements & wheels from Novitec Rosso 599 :icon16:

Detail & closer look at the HD's Novitec Rosso wheel
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1018012
Many imperfection on the wheel, sanded, filled, sanded, filled ...boring process...:shakehead
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5702.jpg
Here's the result, still require some touch up
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5762.jpg
Novitec Rosso's rear wheel was 21", mine was 20", so it looks a bit small at the rear
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5760.jpg
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5758.jpg
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5757.jpg
On the rear bumper, there should be 4 round reverse sensor
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5763.jpg
so i drill holes using 1.2mm drill bit and insert some kotobukiya's parts 1mm rivet
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5764.jpg
The Front Splitter
First i trace the 599 front bumper's shape using masking tape, then i transfer it to a piece of plastic card and design the shape of the splitter.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5765.jpg
After that i trace the shape again using another piece of masking tape and make few template on 0.5mm plastic card.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5766.jpg
I draw line where the bend will be and by holding it using a plyer, i heat it up using cigarette's smoke's, after few seconds i bend it. I try lighter before but the flame is to much and warp the thin plastic (by bending it without heat will weaken the plastic, and please non-smoker don't buy a pack of cigarette because of this  )
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5767.jpg
here's a rough shape (actually this is the 5th attempt)
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5769.jpg

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5771.jpg
After some sanding, i glue some 0.5mm bended plastic card at the side

i havent decided whether to use carbon fiber like below which is a 1/48 scale very small pattern, almost black if not look up very close

Great work. I hate to say there's too much detail in the interior. Don't get me wrong i like what you've done, but things like the door pockets are at best going to be hard to see in a closed car. That paint seems a great solution to the very hard to decal interior cf parts though. Could you post a picture of the bottle, as i'm not sure what the differences are between the old and new?

Fantastic work! I love that car since seeing it in my Forza issue.
As Ferrari TR mentioned, how about a glimpse of Mr. Color Steel. Bottle/Spray? Did you airbrush it?
Anyway, great work on an awesome car!

Entau great work so far. How thick is the styrene you used on the diffuser? Also, consider a taller tire to fill the wheel space in the rear.
Will follow this one :)

I like the look of the front splitter with the wheels. And about the CF i would say dont paint it and also i would not use the 1:48 scale carbon. I would use some Scale motorsports 1:24 CF it is the best CF ive ever used and verry easy to aplay! But good luck on this one!

Ferrari TR, this is more like an exercise/practice for me, so even if i make mistake or mess up, it is barely visible :icon16:

73superduty, yeap i airbrush it :icon16:
cjsbosox, the front splitter is 0.5mm or 0.0196inch, unfortunately i can't find a thicker rear tire, the stock tire are thick but too narrow:disappoin
Tompidom, the 1/48 CF is from scalemotorsport, i'm worried the 1/24 CF pattern might appear huge on the tiny dashboard  but i'll test first & see which is better, also i see that you are also doing a 599, maybe you can try on it first & show us how it looks :iceslolan

Great work!!!
The Front Splitter resulted awesome, you got a great look on the car with those wheels, but I have a question, what about those bolt-holes in the wheels, does the kit include the bolts?
And a question, those round hex from top studio are PE to cut from a fret or are they rubber backed? they look very useful.
Keep it coming!

alex, countach & ramon thanks
ramon, this is how the wheels look like when i got it, no bolts, only 4 air valves were provided
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5538.jpg
the round hex from top studio are rubber backed, no need to cut, also available in hex :iceslolan

A bit updates:
Original seat, nice but lack of detail
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5833.jpg
so i add some lining using stretch sprue
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5832.jpg
position and glue the bottom first, then align with masking tape
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5837.jpg
apply thin cement along
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5840.jpg
this is the thin cement i'm using, equivalent to tamiya's thin cement
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5838.jpg
there should be extra stitched panel, so i draw line using masking tape
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5834.jpg
cut along the line using modeling knife
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5835.jpg
then i re-scribe the line

this is how it looks
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5841.jpg
also i scribe the back where the carbon fiber will be

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5833.jpg
so i add some lining using stretch sprue
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5832.jpg
position and glue the bottom first, then align with masking tape
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5837.jpg
apply thin cement along
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5840.jpg
this is the thin cement i'm using, equivalent to tamiya's thin cement
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5838.jpg
there should be extra stitched panel, so i draw line using masking tape
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5834.jpg
cut along the line using modeling knife
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5835.jpg
then i re-scribe the line
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5836.jpg
this is how it looks

also i scribe the back where the carbon fiber will be

Some progress on the interior, decided to cut out the centre console as detailing will be much easier & i want it to sit on top of the flocking. But it takes me 1 hour & 15 minutes, i thought can be done in 30min, maybe i wasn't using the right tool :banghead:

I would go deliberately spraying the whole dashboard with Mr. color steel base, making templates for the vents protuberances and the remaining area to be carbonized. Then decaling (the color underneath should forgive small imperfection), clearcoat and polishing. If dash panel lines are deep enough, neat masking of the carbonized area should not be so difficult… then final shot of semi-gloss or matt black.
But you’re for sure skilled to obtain a clean result, even without my suggestion :iceslolan
However, charming progress.

I would go also for the semi gloss black, that would be close to the real thing.
You did a very good choice on the CF decals pattern size, (here is where I went wrong with mine, LOL) and I'm sure you will get them right.
What I did to ease the process was using two decals, one for the lower section (from the middle of the air vents) and then another for the upper section, don't do it with one decal.
Great job, keep it coming!

Great work. Saw a 599 on the street the other day. What a fantastic looking car.
Keep up with the great details. Very interesting and impressive. Anyone that has really tried to make small details like that (like the window switch, or the door pocket), knows that getting them so nice and neat is NOT an easy task.
Thanks for the WIP. It will be fun to follow along.

the first door pocket was glue using thin cement, result was not so good because it soften the plastic too much, the 2nd one was glue with super glue, result was much better & easier, i was able to glue it more 'straight', the first one soft too much it bend

countach, gtziaf & scolopendra: many thanks :iceslolan
my cutting mat's unit is 1x1cm for each square box :)
although i really wanted to start painting on my interior, but i guess maybe not, better finish all modification & sanding work before any paint job, my table is super messy :icon16:
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5960.jpg
Novitec Rosso's side vent is sightly larger than the stock 599, and the shape also more edgy
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/compare.jpg
so i roughly marked the shape, file the hole to make it bigger and then filled with polyester putty
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5930.jpg
then i carefully sand to get the shape, because it's not easy to get a straight line :banghead:
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5931.jpg
still a lot of work is require
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5973.jpg
Exhaust tip also different from stock 599, i tried sanding on the plastic but don't think i can get the result i want, it's too thick and difficult to get it thin
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5965.jpg
so i try this, 4mm metal tube from MSM, although slightly bigger than i want, i think it's better than the plastic
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5961.jpg
so i cut it half, mark the length with tape, file & sand it off, then insert some plastic on the bottom to act as female peg, and slowly file & sand to get the slanted shape
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5962.jpg
here's how it look, but not yet finish...still need some sanding to get it right

small update on the headlight:
i use some kotobukiya parts again for the headlight, size was correct but too thick
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5974.jpg
so i attach it to a dremel and thin it down with knife & smoothed with sandpaper 800 grit

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5977.jpg
basicly the original headlight is too short and inaccurate, so i separated it for easier painting and more realistic looking
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5978.jpg
compare to the original, although not much difference, but imperfection masking will show it a lot
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN5981.jpg
the transparent headlight cover also doesn't fit, it is protruding from the body contour, so i carefully sand off the transparent part to make it fit & flush with the body

i use tamiya HG spray-work III 0.3mm airbrush, thinning ratio is 1:2.5 (1 surfacer : 2.5 thinner) yes, its quite thin so i usually need at least 3 coat but the result is smooth :iceslolan

thanks guys for the encouraging words, :icon16:
some updates, but not too progressive as i'm busy with work recently
the rear lips, first trace the shape from the rear diffuser, then cut out from 0.5mm styrene, i draw line to mark the bending line
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN6068.jpg
clamp it, blow with hairdryer to soften the plastic so i can bend it without breaking the thin styrene
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN6070.jpg
slowly bend it to get the right shape
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN6071.jpg
rough shape
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa155/Entau/ALL%20WIP/Novitec%20Rosso%20599%20GTB/DSCN6074.jpg
unfortunately 0.5mm is correct thickness but TOO fragile to work with, and i should NOT use thin cement as it weaken the styrene and break it, actually i break it more than 3 times, i think i've to redo in thicker styrene and slowly thin it down :smokin:

frustrated, i continue other easier parts, the side vent is too shallow if looked from the side, so i add some styrene sheet to make it deeper

reinforce inside, also it's easier for me to position & glue the mesh later

and the rear spoiler is almost done, but i felt the shape is incorrect and too small

the spoiler bracket is made from leftover sprue runner, as i felt the styrene sheet that i had is too soft, first i drill holes, then slowly sand to get the right shape, then i cut it out and slowly sand to get the correct size and fitting, very difficult to get everything glue symmetrically if there's a slight dislocation, as you can see, the position i glue is not centralise and slightly towards the right side.
comments are welcome
some updates, but not too progressive as i'm busy with work recently
the rear lips, first trace the shape from the rear diffuser, then cut out from 0.5mm styrene, i draw line to mark the bending line

clamp it, blow with hairdryer to soften the plastic so i can bend it without breaking the thin styrene

rough shape

unfortunately 0.5mm is correct thickness but TOO fragile to work with, and i should NOT use thin cement as it weaken the styrene and break it, actually i break it more than 3 times, i think i've to redo in thicker styrene and slowly thin it down :smokin:
